Family move to San Antonio

Hello,

Our family is seriously considering a major re-location move to San Antonio from Orange County, Southern California. Primary motivation is to lower lifestyle pace and live a simpler life. Our son is 11 years old, and a good school is vital. I am looking to transit from a technical account management position in the aviation industry, into any job market I can transfer my many skills into.
We do know about the heat, we made it a point to visit last August for evaluation. The people all treated us with a warm demeanor, our neighbors here in So. Ca don't really want to take the time (or maybe have the time) to get to know one another.

We are looking for real home grown locals (and some California transplants) for some down to earth realities of the real San Antonio from your experience.

We would be greatful for your information.
Thank you

What does this thread not cover that we should focus on in our responses? Otherwise, we're rehashing that thread in a new light.

I hail originally from NY (not California) but have lived in Texas for over 20 yrs. I love it here, there is so much to see and do- or just take it easy. Totally slower than the fast paced NY area I was raised in! Re: the heat...
I must have acclimated to the heat, because it rarely bothers me. Besides, I am an asthmatic and it's the colder weather that brings on the attacks.

As you will find when you move down here, the climate and slower pace, isn't all, that is great. The lower cost of living is wonderful. My neice who lived in San Diego is appalled that we are selling our farm for less than she paid for her home! It's so nice to sit on the front porch in the morning, and just relax while we watch our kids play in a safe environment.

So, best of luck in your move to Texas, it is so worth it!
