D/FW residents? Need a favor
If anyone here is a D/FW resident, could you email me privately? I need to pick your brain about the neighborhoods & cities that make up the metroplex.
edbarnes@houston.rr.com
Thanks in advance!

Just sent you an email. Although I'm in San Antonio, Justin and I have family in Dallas so I sent you contact information to them. We visit Dallas about 1-3 times a year to visit them.

Thanks! I see you changed your photo...
The new job was a bad move. I don't want to speak ill but its very uncomfortable for me. I need a change of scenery. I've sent out resumes to San Antonio, D/FW, Shreveport, New Orleans & Baton Rouge. Thus far the D/FW folks are the ones beating my door down so I'm trying to get info about the areas the various clinics are located in so I can filter them a bit.
OTOH, a recruiter is trying to convince me to go to the DC area. Says the higher pay there will offset the increased cost of living. She's trying to convince me that the CoL is not as bad as it seems... that if I'm willing to make a 15-20 mile commute, CoL drops to Houston levels or lower. Still not sure about the whole snow thing, though.

Vettech,
I see you are in Clear Lake. I'm in Deer Park and currently work in North Houston. What do you do? Maybe we can network if we're in the same field. I'm a technical drafter and would love to commute to your area of town.

Nope, wrong field but thanks for the reply. I'm a registered veterinary technician - think RN for critters.

Check your e-mail. We have lived in Lewisville for 23 years and commuted to various other cities in the metroplex to work. I will try to help if I can.

Re: D/FW residents? Need a favor
San Antonio was home for 30 years. Since then, I've lived in Valley Ranch (Irving) and Coppell since 1996. I'll send you a personal email as you requested. Am willing to share what I know about the DFW area.
BTW...I'm still partial to SA. Work brought me to the 'northside'.

Thanks for chiming in, Jason. I figured you could provide a good overview of the area from your time there, balanced with your experiences here in San Antonio and elsewhere (Little Rock, Las Vegas, etc.) over the years.
PS: Hope my email about your upcoming travel didn't touch a nerve... it just made me mindful of the troops overseas and the approaching Veteran's Day.

Re: D/FW residents? Need a favor
Jason & Ed: I'm glad you two hooked up here because I goofed and emailed Jason at the wrong address, so he didn't receive my "heads up, there's someone who needs some Dallas info I'm sending your way!" email.
DOH! I need more caffeine, or sleep, or something...

Re: D/FW residents? Need a favor
Thanks to all who replied to my request. I accepted a position at a clinic in southwest Fort Worth and will be moving in 2 weeks.
I love the western part of Fort Worth. It was amazing to me to see such steep hills and open, natural areas within the city limits.
For now, I'll be living near the clinic but hope to move a bit nearer Lake Worth in the forseeable future.
Shannon, you & Justin have built a great community here on the 'net. Gracias!

I'm here! I've been in my new place for 2 weeks as of today and just got back online.
I'm thrilled with my new town. I had no idea a major city could have this much green space! I'm told that Fort Worth has more parks per square mile than any other major city save Chicago and I can believe it.
I discovered a wondeful benefit to my new apartment. I'm only 1/2 mile (or less) from an incredible boon to the city - the Trinity Trails Hike & Bike path. Its a series of paths, mostly concrete but some crushed limestone, that runs along the various small rivers that begin in Fort Worth and forms the headwaters of the Trinity River. There are ~32 miles of trails along this path.
Here's a map
I live right near the jumping-off point at 183. Thus far I've explored from here to Benbrook Lake and as far north as LaGraves Field (just past downtown but not quite to Marine Creek).
I've taken quite a few photos that are now on my photo site. If anyone would care to take a look, I'd love some help in identifying some of the more notable downtown buildings in the photos and any corrections to the captions. Shannon, if you'd look them over and make some suggestions, I'd be glad to send some of the better ones up this way.

Re: D/FW residents? Need a favor
Glad things are going well for you!! We have only explored portions of the Trinity Trails on foot rather than biking, so probably have not seen as much of the entire trail as you will. Even with that limitation, we concur that it is great. We are always amazed by the large number of wildlife we spot there even though it is in the middle of the city. There are also all kinds of unexpected little surprises in different locations. One of those was the overlook at the park (can't remember the name right now) at the top of the cliffs downtown. On the slopes along the trail leading up to the overlook are the remains of some of the first buildings in Fort Worth. It is a little off the main bike trail, but worth the detour if you like that kind of thing.

Vettech2112,
Got your PM and tried to respond. System says your set NOT to accept private messages. PM me if you open it and want me to send the message I put together for you.
Merry Christmas and welcome to Ft. Worth!

I know the place you're talking about. Its called Heritage Park, right across from the courthouse. I walked the bike up the stairs just to the left of there & took a few shots from that platform just yesterday.
I had intented to explore the trail for 2-3 hours yesterday but it became 6 1/2. I fell into the hiker's trap - just one more hill, just one more curve. I cycled from 183 to downtown, explored downtown, then up to the Stockyards & explored there, then up to Marine Creek & followed to trail's end in a park just south of Meacham Field.
It was at that point hat I realize just how far I was from home. I ate my trail snacks & watched a few innings of a baseball game then came back.
The best part of the trail is from Benbrook to downtown, from there to the Stockyards is so-so. Past the Stockyards the trail gets very yukky & Marine Creek really isn't much to look at. Sadly, its fallen into the typical urban trap - trash, tires, shopping carts everywhere, broken bottles on the trail, etc. I have no plans to return to taht stretch of trail. I'm going to try exploring West Fork next after we recover from this nasty front that's on its way.
