You might not have the right audience for this post, but I could be wrong. I, myself, have never heard of either group. However, since these are Texas events, you've posted it in the right forum. Hope you enjoy the show(s).

PS: Welcome to Wild Texas!

Well, yeah...i guess not. But you should give them a listen, if you want, they are a really good group. Yeah, they are pop-rock, but most of their songs are pianos and guitars. The guy voice is all thats pop sounding...and their new cd is super mellow. I lvoe it. IT's not like annoying pop cds that can be loud. ANyways, you should give them a listen on amazon. Something Corporate - NORTH. THat's the most recent cd. OKay..well see ya!

Re: Concert

I'll have to admit.. I've never heard of something corporate either, but for you itunes using folks... they got it. might as well go listen to the free 30 seconds of each song and decide if its your kind of thing. Struck me more of an electric guitar type of group... I myself am more of a funky folky acoustic fan ( i.e., erin mckeown.. also on itunes)- but if you're into electric stuff, it might be right up your alley. It kind of reminded me of a toned down, more mellow version of the white stripes... which is good....

as usual, my 2 cents. you know i always have to pipe up it comes from days and days and days of hanging out with nothing to do

(Welcome socrazy...)

(on that note.. this beautiful spring weather makes me think that you guys in san antonio need a hatshell type place - outdoor concert venu- to take advantage of the nice springs and falls down here. we had this place on the charles river in boston where the pops would play for the 4th of july, and various bands came all the time... in the middle of this river front park- it was perfect, and always drew a big crowd. someone wanna pitch that to the city and building something on the river walk? if you could arrange to have it fully completed by the fall, that'd be great... jk. )

We've got the Sunken Gardens Theatre in Brackenridge Park, near the Zoo, and the Arneson River Theatre on the San Antonio River downtown. I think there are probably a few more venues I'm forgetting worthy of note, as well. Nothing in the midst of naturally occuring waterfalls or the like, however -- that would be splendid!

Since it's somewhat related (and I'm partial to all things Irish), the San Antonio River is now officially the River Shannon. It's the annual San Antonio River dyeing, completed yesterday in preparation for Saint Patrick's Day. After that, it'll be the draining of the river and the crowning of the Mud King and Mud Queen. (I'm not kidding!) Fun stuff... almost makes me wish I'd gone downtown yesterday. We made two visits to the Zoo this past weekend to take photos; Saturday was a little too rainy and drove us out of the Zoo after several hours, since it's difficult to take photos when you're collecting raindrops on your gear -- and keeping them in their waterproof camera bags sort of defeats the purpose of photography.

For folks who haven't been to our Zoo in awhile, there's a new butterfly exhibit that lets you walk among the butterflies. It's $1 extra (tickets can be purchased near the exhibit, and probably also at the ticket office) and looks like a lot of fun. We had extreme zoom lenses on our cameras, so we opted to visit on another trip when we could actually take photos of the critters if they landed on us. There's also a new children's zoo that will open sometime in May, apparently.

Oh, and the crocodiles? They don't get fed at all from October to March. So I suppose after March if one wants a show, those will be mighty hungry 'crocs! That's from a park custodian who was checking on the crocs, who are slowly starting to get more active with the onset of Spring.

I don't know why I didn't think of that... I've got iTunes on my ol' (400mhz) Powerbook and my Dell desktop (1.4 gHz). Just bought some more tunes at a brick & mortar store (versus online). It's been awhile since I've even visited the iTunes Music Store. I'll definitely give the bands socorazy mentioned a listen. That, and Erin McKeown, whom I don't think I've heard yet, either.

My music collection's all over the map -- an odd mix of Irish folk and Celtic music (Phil Coulter, Enya, Clannad, Loreena McKennitt), soundtracks (Justin's influence), showtunes (A-L Webber), classical pop (Josh Groban), pop/rock/folk/various (Sarah McLachlan, Phil Collins, Marc Cohn, Norah Jones, Beth Orton) new age/techno (Enigma, some remixes) and classic rock (Styx, etc.) And that's leaving out the occasional jazz and instrumental classical I listen to, as well as the occasional hard rock song.

I have a 30GB iPod with about 8.5 GB free, and that's after yanking off my seasonal music (holidays) and a couple radio plays from the BBC off it that I only listen to occasionally.

Re: Concert

Heh... you have to cycle your season ipod music as well we only have an old 10GB ipod and we are completely out of room. If I manage to find a job sometime soon here- say, BEFORE i move away, a new, bigger & better ipod is on my list (as well as a new electric-hybrid car, a new computer, some sun tubes for my house, another dog maybe...). Otherwise, I'll just keep cycling through them.

I like Norah Jones- played a lot of her stuff at my wedding. back before she was really played on the radio If you like Norah Jones & Beth Orton, you might like Dar Williams as well as Erin Mckeown (who was playing up in Austin I think last weekend- I found out the day AFTER... oops). I guess I like what is called 'folk rock' although that genre title makes me cringe. Sometimes, when I'm in a weird mood, I like bluegrass (and XM radio has a blue grass channel- I get my fill and never have to buy anything ). I like Jack Johnson a lot- a local hawaii boy from where my husbands family is from... he does a lot of acoustic stuff. I'm waiting to get my hands on Dave Matthews new album- the solo one... I used to like Moby, but I haven't seen any new stuff. I like Elliot Smith, but unfortunately he committed suicide last fall.

Is there an online schedule for the sunken gardens theater? or for any of the outdoor venues you can think of?

Re: Concert

Temporary Topic Derailment:
What hybrid vehicles are you interested in? I'm not seriously in the market for a new car yet, but I have my eye on Ford's hybrid version of the Escape. I have a wonderful (reliable, great condition) 1992 Toyota Corolla that's got ridiculously low mileage since I got it when I was 18 and most of its time with me has been to commute to school or work (both were closeby), rather than long trips. The only reason I even consider getting a new car eventually (since this one would last forever) is safety -- airbag(s) and other technological improvements that have aided safety design of vehicles. Well, that and I want to ride a little higher on the road as I'm tired of staring at headlights and/or grill guards and feeling like I'm Wilma Flintstone sitting ON the ground as I drive.

Anyway, the Escape has an ingenious system whereby it never needs to be plugged in. Its batteries recharge every time the vehicles' brakes are pressed, which is pretty often even on a short hop to the supermarket.

No idea on price range or ongoing maintenance costs, but it did get a very good safety rating in the latest small SUV category. I'm not seriously in the market yet, so I avoid getting bummed out by prices just yet.

Not ignoring the rest of your post, just trying to compartmentalize the discussion a little... for my own benefit. It's hard shifting from music to camping to new car buying in one message. Will catch up on the rest of the thread soon.

Re: Concert

Yup. a hybrid escape is exactly what I'm looking at. I'd like an SUV, but can't handle the guilt. we already have a station wagon, and we have this huge gas guzzling monstrosity of a truck- I'd like to dump the truck ASAP and pay my debt to the environment with a hybrid SUV. If I got a job someday, I could use the 4 wheel drive, higher clearance and cargo room of the Escape. If not, well, the dog will go in the back nicely.

I had heard a rumor last year that Toyota might come out with a hybrid of their matrix. I really like the matrix because its a perfect size for me, but have yet to see any indication that what I heard was anything more than a rumor.

There is a civic hyrbid that has been sold for a couple years now. If the Escape ends up being too costly, I might look into the civic and see if I can't convince myself its not too small for me.
