Austin Residents, Looking for Austin information
|
|
Hello,
This is my first post to the forum, but I browse the site often ever since I purchased a State Park pass.
I moved to Dallas about a year ago from Colorado. In Colorado I lived in a very small town called Georgetown. Gravel roads, no stoplights, hike out your backdoor kind of town, which I really enjoyed. Dallas has been fun, and I have really enjoyed my outdoor pursuits here so far, but I'm starting to feel burnt on the city life.
Now its time to move again, this time to Austin, and I am looking for info on towns or living areas around Austin that can possibly take me back to that slower pace of living I found in CO. I am basically looking for living areas that could keep me close enough to Austin for business (about a 20 min drive max), but can still allow a more small town life. I'm more interested in country living over suburban life, and I will still be renting a house, not buying.
So can anybody offer up info on places around Austin that might fit the bill? I'll take green over concrete any day, so isolated, wooded areas would be a bonus, though I understand my budget limitations may not allow for such luxuries.
Anyway, any information would be greatly appreciated. I know you all can understand my passion for the outdoors, so I thought this would be a good place to ask.
Thank you,
Scott Rouse

Lakeway, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs would all be good, but it depends on which side of town you work on.

I would say Drippings Springs is your best option in the area. You could also go out 71 West towards Pace Bend park- its beautiful out there but further than you may want to be from Austin.

You could try San Marcos, which is a college town. There's lots of "outdoorness" there. It's about a 30 minute drive to Austin but you are real close to all of the rivers. The rent is kind of high in San Marcos due to the school being there and all, but you can find cheap places on the outskirts.

Howdy,
I live in Drippin'.
While I sympathize with your desires, I think you are about 10 years too late. As a boy who grew up in Austin and has grown to loath what it has become.. there really isn't anyplace within a reasonable driving distance that hasn't become suburban sprawl.
There are some communities, some areas, that work for me better than others. My advice to you would be to rent for at least a year, and then decide what compromise works best for you, because compromise you will.
Adios,

Amen to that. Give yourself more travel time. You might try Wimberly--heck even THAT place gets swamped on weekends.

Adios,

Urban sprawl seems to be the Texas way??
I lived in Massachusetts and though I hate the local government they did have control on how towns grew. Even the shopping centers were built with historical themes.
I think we have so many transients here that very few actually give a damn?

Looking For Austin Dallas/Ft. Worth Rental Apartment.
|
|
I m looking for a room or apartment to rent in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I do not currently need a place to stay now, but I
will in the future and wanted to start looking around now and not wait till the last minute. I am not picky and it does not
have to be fancy. I am use to not having privacy and sharing, so that won't be an issue for me. I'm a professional 26 year old male.
