Hi all WildTexas Forum Members. I am new to this message board, and frankly I enjoyed reading several "primitive" camping postings on this board dealing with the San Antonio areas. My ex resides in SA and requested I go for the weekend around the 9th of Sept., and living in bayou city makes me quite eager to check out several sites in the sloping terrain.
But, I was wondering is anyone a part of, or is willing to join/form an adventure (expedition) club? National Geographic Magazine is still an ongoing expedition club, and is perhaps the fathering club which all other themed clubs spawn from. Traditionally speaking the majority of the American clubs are all-male(especially the now senior big game hunters of Africa), but across the pond the British pub clubs are more mixed. I guess if I was in a dire situation having a female nearby would prove to be less distressful when the end is near....

But seriously, usually these adventure "clubs" are focused on trekking for weeks in jungle/mountain theaters (light supplies lines, tropical vegatation, & machete), even the military would be envious of. These expeditions members embark on unpredictable adventures into the Amazons, Thailand/Myanmar borders, Polar regions, Peru/Bolivia Andes areas, Africa, Deserts, dog sledding, even some old day horse marathon racing...^_^. Treks/Journeys by these groups are usually conducted to the unknown virgin lands for reasons usually dealing with self-observation(mental challenge),wealth, game, research, isolation, exploration, memories, romance, enjoying God's work, catholic influence, or the traditional fame/glory. Maybe it is not the typical primitive camping, but more of what I term "second-third world" camping.

If anyone is interested in organizing with me or has been in these social gatherings of sorts, maybe you could discuss and share stories of your explorations, even if some of your trips are stationed around the United States, Canada, Mexico. What made your trip successful? What sort of supplies did you pack? What snares were you able to set? Did you use compass, solar directioning, or GPS? How many days you spend in nature when the food supply ran out? How many companions? Did you have any fights/disagreements? What caused you guys/girls to breakdown before the actual event? How many miles/km were you able to trek, on what sort of terrain? What would you have done to make the trip more successful, more adequately supplied, more comfortable for the entire group? Did more training promise better endings? Or were you just in it for the scenary and hurried to get back to civilization? ^^ Any suggestions would be encouraged, as everyone has different minds.
Best Regards,
Andy Fong
