Fishing in State Parks still free in 2006? Where are the nearest ones around 183?

Hi All,

I have heard that the fishing license requirement has been waived in 2004 as long as you are in a state park, fishing from the bank. Is this still in effect?

Where are the neares stateparks around Research Blvd - Mopac area?

Any tips?

Thanks!

Hello "freeman" and welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy your time here and that we can be of help.

Yes, there is no license required for anyone fishing inside of a Texas State Park. This started in '03 or '04 and has been continued on a year to year basis. Latest that I've heard is that it is planned to become a permanent law but has not as yet. It is in effect now and I would expect it to continue.

Probably your best fising would be at Blanco State Park. A bit of a drive but it's a nice place. Have camped there a number of times, last fall being the lastest.

Hope you have a great time and,

Happy Camping!

Yes fishing is free again this year in state parks.

My question to you is, how much fishing are you going to do? Getting into state parks isn't free. If you think you'll fish more than 10 times in a year, a license would be a better deal. There just $38 for resident all water ( not just the free state park waters).

Portions of both your fishing license and state parks pass go towards stocking and maintenance in the areas you'll be enjoying fishing. Why not pay?
