Hi. I'd like to take my kids out to Canyon Lake to try some pier or shore fishing. Can anyone tell me where a good spot on the lake would be for this, and what we might catch? Of course, it would be great to do this from a boat, but unfortunately we don't have one. I'd appreciate any information anyone can offer. Thanks!

I have fished the Lake from one of the Corp. camps. It was many years ago and does not bring back memories of success??
Now for some fun go to the dam release and fish for trout!! I remember catching my limit rather quickly. Kids should love it

I've fished at Canyon quite a few times. In fact, that's where I caught my first fish! It was at the Fort Sam Recreational site and it is the perfect place to go! (if you know someone that's active or retired military) Other than that, I hear that Canyon is a little tougher to fish in but hey, fishing is fishing; if it were easy, it wouldn't be any fun! If you get the chance to stop at any gas stations near the exit on I-35, they have some really good animated maps of the area that can direct you where to fish. I don't have a boat either but I find it funner that way. Wal-Mart also sells a Lake and Bay almanac of maps that tell you where the fish are and what they bite on. Of course nothing is full-proof but it's a very good guide. I hear the dam is an excellent spot but I've only tried it once. It was around 40 degrees so my trip was short. You'll have a blast either way. Good luck!!

Guadalupe Park is located below Canyon Dam along the first mile of the Guadalupe River. With fishing access to the river and two Guadalupe River trails. There are fishing access points from the river trails. There is an ADA-accessible parking lot and trailway to a public fishing pier on the left bank below the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) hydropower plant.



This stretch of the Guadalupe river is very popular as the State of Texas' premier trout fishing stream. No camping or picnic facilities are available. A restroom facility is located at nearby Overlook Park near the southern end of Canyon Dam. Overlook Park is closed at sunset daily. Use of Guadalupe Park is free of charge.
