While placing a cache ,can it be place under water, in a lake,or stream.

Generally, you don't want caches that will disturb or disrupt the natural habitat or its inhabitants. Making folks slog through a lake or stream would probably not suit that goal.

Thats what we needed to know.My daughters Girl Scout Troup asked me about it and I was'nt sure.She's found a spot thats a lot better.Thanks

I suppose you could, although that would increase the difficulty of retrieving it and could introduce some hazards to those trying to get to it. Usually, you want the geocache to be a bit of a challenge to find, but do not want to place those looking for it in a dangerous situation. Granted, streams and lakes are usually just fine...but no sense in pushing one's luck...

The spot that the scouts had in mind was at GSRP in a hole by the hugh rock in the river.After reading up on the subject this spot was perfect,but they have found another spot.They hope to place the cache in about a week.Thanks for helping them.

Make sure any cache they hide in GSRP is above the flood plain. Last night the North Bosque River shot up again over twenty feet.

PS There is an underwater cache in Lost Maples State Park.

They also have alot of caches in the Burnet-Inks Lake area.When my daughter called from GRSP they had placed the cache and she would'nt tell me where.The Pack Leader said that they have a great spot,better than the first spot.Wish I had the numbers they will post in about 6 days,they also use geocaching.com.I'll try to post details when I find out.Boy I wish we had gps when I was in scouts,beats old compass ways.Can't wait to get to Inks to look the caches up there.

As much as the Guadalupe floods I wouldn't put anything near the water. At GRSP, near means anywhere that is within 40 foot elevation of the river.
