Posted on behalf of a local reporter

I'm posting this on behalf of a local reporter. If anyone wants their 15 seconds of fame, here's your opportunity IF you are a geocacher and would like to share your interest in the sport with others.

Greetings,
I am a reporter for WOAI radio in San Antonio and would be interested in doing a story on geocaching.

If someone could call me at 736 9731 or 800 936 6397 I would be very grateful.

Thank you,

Jim Forsyth
WOAI Radio
(Why don't I call? I just got back from vacation and I'm swamped...)

Re: Posted on behalf of a local reporter

NOTE: This reporter is quite likely interested in geocaching because of a recent death at Eisenhower Park. A 64-year-old man hiking alone apparently fell and died of unspecified injuries while geocaching at the park.

Geocashing? I had to look that one up.. I see it's GPS, kindof a instead of hack the planet - map the planet? Poor guy, I guess those new dazzeling screens on those new color GPS devices are just to interesting to look away from? ...http://www.geocaching.com/

Actually, according to the report I read the fellow had already successfully found (logged) the cache and was on his return hike.

If goecaching is a foreign term to you, "letterboxing" might ring a few bells. It's similar in some regards and a precursor to the new geocaching sport/hobby.

I think this fellow would have fallen regardless of if he'd had a GPS in hand or not, but that's pure speculation. I just know that even hiking can cause one to take one's eyes off the terrain/trail for a moment and, woops, you twist your ankle or hit a patch of loose gravel or a sudden drop-off. Like everything, there are perils to be found anywhere we humans don't pad, pave and 'protect' for human consumption.
