Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

A Weekend @ Inks Lake State Park
October 6-9,2006
( Monday is a holiday for some schools)

Events to be hosted by the park include
10:30-11:30 am Stumpy Hollow Nature Hike
learn about cactus, flowers, birds, and wildlife. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet in the parking lot across from the park office.
6-7 pm Fishing with a Ranger
Learn about fish and fishing with a ranger, poles and bait provided or bring your own.
8-9 pm Full Moon Hike
Go on an "Owl Prowl" with your guide listening to the sounds of the night. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight.
Events to be hosted by club include
Pot-luck dinner on Saturday.
Families will provide a dish to be shared, and plates, utensils, drinks and chairs for themselves. Dinner time to be announced (Maybe 5?). Location to be announced ( most likely at someone's site in the water/electric section ).
Make your reservations early, it will be a busy weekend in the park. This park has many site options available, including cabins ( which are booked already for sat night). There is a BBQ place on site which is great. Also a great place in Llano for BBQ, called Cooper's. That might be a great idea for Sunday lunch or dinner. Cooper's is an experience which you shouldn't miss. Canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats are available for rental. The guided canoe tour is not scheduled for Saturday. The rentals run about $10 for 1 hour, $25 for 4. Rentals secured thru the park store. If the weather is hot, swimming at Devil's waterhole will be an activity, FOR SURE!

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

OH, I'm so sorry I will miss it! But I wanted to add 2 things. First of all, the bar-b-q place there in the park comes highly recommended by several folks. After Labor Day I will be able to give a personal report!! So that's an option for a meal too.

Second, just because the cabins are booked right now doesn't mean they'll be booked tomorrow, or next week. I tried for 2 weeks every day to get a spot at Inks for Labor Day & finally some came open & I got in. So check back every day if you REALLY want a cabin! I think as it gets closer to October, people's plans will change & they'll cancel out.

Hope I can make whatever gathering's next!!

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

There is a bulletin board in the park office where you can leave notes for people. I can leave a note on there for W.T.C.C. with my site number.

As for what I camp with, I am a "tenter". Someday I will be an RV'r. I will ask for a site which will be good for a group and maybe they can put us nearby each other. We don't need to be next door, but walking distance would be nice. We'll need to find out just how many families plan on attending. Knowing that will also help in the food preparation.

I am planning on doing all the park hosted events with my son. Hopefully there will be some WTCC folks with their kids joining us.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

I'm very excited, this will be our first beyond the backyard camping experience. How do I make reservations?
I'll be sporting my "sewn up" tent or a brand new one! lol We'll see how it goes.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

Posted also on the other thread before I spotted this one.

We'll be there too (with a possible cancellation if DH's parents are moving here right about that time, I just can't know right now).

Campermom, I have only booked through reserveamerica.com once, but it seemed like I thought I was reserving a site in a specific area, but when I got to Inks, they just put me in what was available based on what I wanted at the time (waterfront). If I should do that again so we are all close, then let's post about that, otherwise I'm thinking you just book it and we'll have to coordinate based on who will arrive first. We're tenters too (dreaming of a pop-up).

We're only about a hour from Inks, so we should arrive by 5pm Friday too.

I'm excited! Let's all start praying for cooler weather - remember we packed up from Inks in June after only one night because of the heat. Everyone else is camping in this heat, but with a 2yo that takes a nap, a 120 degree tent is not my idea of fun, not to mention dangerous!

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

Site reservations are never specific. We'll just have to ask about sites close to each other and if you show up after 5 on friday, will need to check the bulletin board in the foyer of the office before selecting your site.

Wow, it's been since Aug 20th since the last response. I hope everyone is still wanting to come. It should be a nice treat to meet some folks from the message board. Inks never disappoints.

My wife will be away at a conference that weekend, but I am planning on coming with my son and maybe talk a friend and his girls into it.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

We're still excited about the weekend. Hopefully folks won't be afraid to be persistent about reservations opening up. Like I posted before, I'll arrive sometime after work on Friday, should take 2 hours from SA. If someone gets there first, put a note on the bulletin board in the foyer of the HQ. We'll try to get a spot near by. If not, at least we will know where ya'll are. If it makes you feel safer, just use your screen name about your site location, along with WTCC.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event

Thank you all for welcoming me here, I am so grateful and happy. I'll shoe-polish WTCC on the back of our white Xterra. Hopefully others will mark themselves also.

Campermom, we're looking forward to meeting you and everyone else. We're seasoned campers, but have that "joie de vivre" joy of life of new friends.

Mom will be away, but little Luca and me will be ready for it all. Kayaking, hikes and campfires (we hope).

Until then, AYYYYEEEE!

Jamie
