So campermom, do tell! What was wrong with fishing with a ranger?

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
30-40 kids, practicing their casting skills along the shore line. It was crazy busy. Then, once they could prove their skill at casting, a volunteer would bait their hook and let 'em loose on the water front. 30 + kids spread over an area about 200 yards, very crowded. The best part was that they couldn;t wait patiently for the fish to bite, they kept reeling in their bait and re casting it, crossing over lines, catching trees, etc. Some fished from the paddle boats, docked for the evening, and they paddled while they fished, others just ran up and down the wooden pier. If I was a fish, I wouldn't be within a mile of the commotion created by the evening's program. After detangling lines several times, and yanking a hook from a tree branch, we went back for supper. Besides, we already caught a few from that same pier earlier in the day, and several more, Sunday from a spot near Cajun's Campsite. There's so much to keep you busy at Inks. It's all good.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
I have plenty of photos of most of our adventures but since I don't know how to change the size of them, I've exceeded my file limit. I could sent them as attachments of emails to you, but that is about the extend of my computer skills. I love taking outdoor pictures.

That'd be fine by me -- I'll happily resize them for you, if you'd like to share them here!

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
You guys still doing this club/meetup stuff or should I kill the dedicated forum and calendar? They don't take up any extra space here, per se, but activity seemed to disappear? or ?

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
 I just got my schedule cleared up, so I'll be on more, and it may be the same for others.
My 9 year old son just got his black belt in TaeKwonDo in August, and has decided to take a break from it (we are so relieved after going 4-5 times a week for 3 years), so we are now free to travel on the weekends.
He now has decided to join Boy Scouts, so we'll be camping with them as well.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
We would love to plan an October or mid November camping trip around the Dallas area and maybe have a "Meet & Greet" since we are new to this club. Anyone got one planned?

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
Actually, I can't say I've had the honor of meeting any of our regulars here on WildTexas.com, but at some point I'd sure like to change that so we can all meet in person (those who want to and are able, anyhow) in a nice, family-friendly setting for a good ol' fashioned campout.
Justin plans to hold a photography workshop at some point, as well, so that's another means for folks to meet us. He already teaches a Northside Community Education "Intro to Photography" class several times a year in San Antonio, so that's the inspiration for the photo workshop (which would be a paid, on-site class for folks who want to better their outdoor photography.)
With the exception of the fly-by-night spammers, I can vouche that everyone here on WildTexas are "good people".

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
Well, we actually got out of the backyard and went real camping for the first time! We went with our son's Boy Scout Den. We had a blast!
They were primitive sites, and we actually had to park our car down a ways after we unloaded. We had raccoons several feet from the tent, and coyotes just a few 'blocks' away. We cooked over the open fire and with our new propane stove.
I'm sure we have lots more to learn. But I felt somewhat prepared, thanks to this site!!!
Now that we know we can actually do it, we're open to more! Tell us when and where!

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
Hi Wild Ones,
I just found out about you. This is my first post. I am a grandma who has been sedate and quiiet but now I want to breakout and be a wild Texan and take my grandchildren on camping expiditions with others. I am moving to East Texas (Lufkin) where I am going to begin my camping with my kids. I will be looking for other East Texas folks to meet up with.
This is so exciting. Any East Texans out there?

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
Hi Again,
I just posted but forgot something. I see that there is a camper from Killeen who just made it out of the back yard. Sounds like my level. I haven't moved to East Texas and that will actually be a while. Meantime, I am in Georgetown, close to Killeen. We could arrange a little camping excursion closeby- maybe here in Georgetown. I have been there with my 8 year old grandson and it is close, easy and safe.
I don't know much about negotiating web sites but perhaps I will figure out if you can actually speak to each other or post personally. Anyway, before I move to East Texas, I am still in the Austin area and would like to meet up with some folks here.

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
Hi Dianna and welcome to Wiold Texas!!! Hope you enjoy your time here.
Don't have a lot of time at the moment. Have to go deal with some business. This 'board is fairly easy to navagate. In the top right corner of most pages, you'll find a "clickable" link to "Private Messages". This part of the board will allow you to send private e-mails to any 'board member who hasn't placed a restriction on such message.
Hope this helps and again, welcome aboard!
Happy Camping!

Re: Wild Texans Camping Club - first event
We'll have to plan something this spring. We're a little tenderfooted to go when it's cold. We'll work up to that.
Glad to see you joined up here.
