Re: Camping clubs

When it comes to "heading up" something, I'm probably the worst person ever! I don't have the camping experience or organization skills.
I would also do my part if a group started up. I have very fond memories as a child, meeting up with the same group of children in my parents camping club. We all got to know each other and helped out whenever needed.
I too couldn't find a secular camping group, besides gay and lesbian ones. Now they have it going on!! From what I could get from the websites, it's all very well organized and great involement- it looked really fun. I just don't think they would like a straight couple with young children crashing their events. LOL
Anyone else intereted in planning a family friendly camping event?

This was one recommended to me & it looks like a nice, family-oriented camping club.

Re: Camping clubs

HappyBooker, That one does look like fun. I browsed around through their photos too. They invite anyone who wants to "check them out" to simply come and camp at the same park they will be at and meet some of the members. Makes me wish for a pop-up even more!

I agree, the gruop looks awesome. I liked how they shared little tips and such. I also am wanting a pop-up now! It looks like they just have pop-uppers in that one. I couldn't find any info. on dues or club fees, anyone know if there are any???
We only have a tent, so I'll have to keep looking for a camping club.
Keep posting any info you have!! Thanks in advance!

Re: Camping clubs

Why dont we start a tent camping club? Wife can do the web design for a site and host it if interested. I have been kickin the idea of a beach camping site, thats where we mainly camp. I agree on not liking fee's.

Re: Camping clubs

For that matter, WildTexas.com could happily host it, complete with a dedicated discussion forum area (password-protected for camping club members, or open to the public like the rest of our forums -- whatever the club members wanted) and a dedicated camping club Photo Gallery. You could even use our Wild Texas Calendar to list club events! If people wanted it more separate, we could provide a subdomain so the camping club was accessible via something like http://campingclub.wildtexas.com (Note: this is just a sample; that link goes nowhere @ present.)

I don't camp much these days, but I hope to get back into it and I certainly would love to help others organize and get a camping club going using some of the many resources we already have available to us here on WildTexas.com.

Feel free to send a private message to me if anyone's interested, or keep adding on to this thread. With the number of active camping enthusiasts we have here, the wealth of features and longevity of WildTexas.com (1995 and onward), surely together we can all get this thing going.

Re: Camping clubs

I would be interested in a tent-camping club. I hope to graduate to a pop-up somewhere down the road but I would enjoy meeting other tent people from the forum in the meantime.

Re: Camping clubs

We'd sure be interested too. Do we have to limit ourselves to tents? We tent camp, but I don't see why anyone from our forum wouldn't be welcome. As a matter of fact, I sure wished I knew the folks with the RV's next to us last time we were at Inks. That A/C would have been nice to escape to! ;o)

And I think all ages would be so welcome too. We have young children, but they love to be around all kids, and substitute grammys/grampys too!

Thumbs up Re: Camping clubs

slowpoke here- I too think it should be open to all who camp, RV, tents whatever. I am up for all ages, we have 2 boys 8.5 and 10 yr olds.
Wild Texas Camping Club sounds like a good name. Wife volunteers to design a home page if needed or whatever the admins here need her to do. Lets get this thing rolling.

Re: Camping clubs

It doesn't have to be named after Wild Texas, although you guys are certainly welcome to adopt the name if you'd like for the club though I'd prefer our logo not get used. I'm a little busy over the next couple days; if you guys can gather up an informal listing of who's interested, I'll set you guys up a dedicated discussion area, calendar and photo gallery... it'll look like WildTexas.com, eg. with our navigation and such, so if that's not to your liking don't feel obligated to go that route. I just offered it up as one option. Sounds like you have at least one camping club "member" with web skills and available hosting, so it's up to ya'll what serves your needs best.

I'll give myself a deadline so you guys don't sit there twiddling your thumbs waiting to see what I'm referring to -- Monday, July 24th, 2006 -- I'll have the stuff online for you to see if it's useful or you'd rather do your own thing.

Re: Camping clubs

I'd like to join up. I have a son who's 9 & we LOVE to go to the SP's (and others). This isn't just limited to tents is it? We have a pop-up.

For my part I would like to see it be open to all, tents and RV's alike. We camp in a tent now, but we got A/C
