    Re: San Antonio Riders

It's difficult to tell if they're tailoring this to mountain bikers (sounds like it) or road bikers (also sounds like it, what with the "sharing the road" focus). I don't currently have a mountain bike that's comfortable to ride. If they'll be doing road cycling, vs. riding the parks mountain bike-required trails, I'm totally game. immediately forwarded this to Justin when you posted it. I'm emailing them now to find out if road cyclists are going to be able to join or if it's primarily for folks on mountain bikes. Justin still has a mountain bike, and I have one but I'm trying to sell it because it's such a poor fit (wrong frame size & geometry for my height/body.)

Thanks for posting this! Justin's had a lot of contact with the San Antonio Metro Planning Organization since he's such an active bicycle commuter now to/from work several times a week. I'm so thrilled with the strides being made to make San Antonio a more cycling friendly city!

    Re: San Antonio Riders

I think the title "Share the Road & the Trails Cycling Program"
gives away that they may want all involved. Sharing the trails is something a few need to learn but they won't be there I am afraid

and sharing the road is just as important for riders and drivers

    Keep rolling

    Re: San Antonio Riders

My time's limited so you can understand why I'm wondering if I'm going to get any time on my (road) bike or if it'd be mostly me watching Justin and others on their mountain bikes. ;-)

Here's the official response from San Antonio & Bexar County's awesome Bicycle/Pedestrian Transportation Planner, Lydia. Justin's actually met her and attended one of the meetings (packed house, as I recall--lots of interest in cycling and pedestrian-friendly transportation!)

    Good Day

We plan to have safety classes for commuting as well as off road. I think your mountain bike would work for this just fine.

Of course there will be plenty of opportunity for off road trails at Govt Canyon.

I hope this answers your questions.
    Let me know,
    Lydia

    Re: San Antonio Riders

Is there anyone who would be interested in biking from Corpus Christi to Padre Island National Seashore and camping out there? Write if you are and I will send details. For reference see: Padre Island National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service)

Cycling will be 20 miles one way with a leisurely pace that includes birding, sightseeing and other activities, which includes stopping by the Coastal Bend Confederated Tribes' American Indian ceremonial grounds.
