San Antonio Area Cyclists Beware

Quote:
Do you ride Upper Balcones Rd or Toutant Beauregard Rd which runs between Boerne and Cascade Caverns Road?
Quote:
Have you been harassed or almost hit by a maroon pickup truck? Did you witness the incident described below on May 28th?

If so please get involved. He recently came across lanes and almost hit two riders.

All lives are precious and this driver does not understand the principle of SHARE THE ROAD.

See the emails below for how you can help get this person to understand that cyclists Have the Same Rights, Share the Same Road, and Share the Same Rules.

Thank you
And please be careful out there.

People can email their report to Erin Handler or send it directly to the Kendall County sheriff's Dept. The vehicle in the incidents is a maroon pickup and the incidents take place on Upper Balcones Rd or Toutant Beauregard Rd which runs between Boerne and Cascade Caverns Road.

Dear all,

Kendall County Sheriff's office indicated to me today that they would like to proceed with this case as soon as possible. They would like all written statements within the next few days. If you were on the Monday May 28th ride and witnessed this event, or if you have had a separate altercation with this individual, I urge you to please write up a short report including the information included in the original email below.

Please forward me these via email as soon as possible. Alternatively, I will be happy to pick up any hand-written statements from you. Or if you are more comfortable, you can hand-deliver to the KC Sheriff's office in Boerne, at 6 Stahl Road, Boerne, TX.

Please feel free to contact me if you have questions/concerns. Thank you all for your help!

Sincerely,

Erin Handler

Your Full Name
Your Address

DOB
Account of incident as best as you recall
Any other pertinent information/ history, etc.

The case number assigned to this incident is 270-4207, and it is being investigated by Officer Ron Ring (830-249-9721, ext 122). He has also stated that anyone involved can also visit the station to give an account if they'd rather do this in person. However, I will be doing the leg work to organize & collect statements from everyone and hand deliver to the K C Sheriff's office."

Re: San Antonio Area Cyclists Beware

This is pretty sad.

As being from Dallas I was pretty impressed by N. San Antonio having those bike trails. In Dallas you just have to risk your life on the street with cars.

Re: San Antonio Area Cyclists Beware

We have some bike trails, but most of them don't connect to anything useful (eg. to each other or major thoroughfares with bike lanes) so it's a little iffy saying that's an improvement over Dallas.

We were up in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia (D.C.) a couple years back and were amazed/pleased by all the bike paths along the full length of various Interstate highways there. Between that and the Metro and bus service, you can actually get around safely on a bike -- imagine that!
