Ride of Silence -- May 17th statewide
From: George E. Longoria
Subject: 3rd Annual San Antonio Ride of Silence
Quote:
On Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at 7pm local time, cyclists across the world will take part in a memorial ride honoring those cyclists killed or injured by motorists who failed to share the road.
The first Ride of Silence was held in Dallas, TX in 2003 in response to the tragic death of nationally known ultra-distance cyclist, Larry Schwartz. Organized by Larry's friend, Chris Phelan, the ride drew over 1,000 cyclists- all by word of mouth, spread in less than ten days. Phelan had intended the ride to be a one-time event, but word continued to spread across the country and communities contacted him about hosting rides of their own. Three years later, the Ride of Silence is to be held concurrently in 243 communities across the globe. 2006 marks the third year for the Ride of Silence in San Antonio with over 150 cyclists expected to attend.
Please make plans to join your fellow cyclists this coming Wednesday for the 3rd Annual San Antonio Ride of Silence. The ride start is at the Archway of HemisFair Park (located at the intersection of Alamo and Nuevo) in downtown San Antonio.
I would advise arriving at HemisFair Park by 6:45pm. While there is no parking at the starting area, there should be ample street parking within a couple of blocks of it (most downtown parking meters are free after 6:00pm but be sure to check closely) and then just ride on over to the meeting spot.
Please visit the Ride of Silence website at http://www.rideofsilence.org/main.php for more information about this worldwide ride or feel free to download the flier at http://www.george.longoria.com/2006_RoS.pdf
Thanks for your interest and support.
