Justin and I did 10 miles at
Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera this morning. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful park and we had it completely to ourselves. Peaceful, quiet (even on the bikes, particularly on the old ranch roads where we were flying on smooth limestone and hard-packed, smoothed caliche), and pleasant weather... and a terrific workout and ride.
Man, I love this park. It's always been my favorite, and one that I regret not having visited in {cough} far too long. I've loved every day hiking trip out there, and all the camping trips have been stellar, even though wildlife isn't a guaranteed sight on every trip; doesn't mean it isn't out there, though. There's fresh sign around, and you can usually find tracks where there's mud that hasn't been ripped up by horseshoes, hiking boots and bicycle tires.
I have enough to share that this deserves to be a trip report here on
WildTexas.com, but in the meantime here's
my entry about the ride over on my personal website (
GeekHabitat.com).
