A friend of mine joined me for a morning mountain bike ride at Guadalupe River State Park yesterday. This was my third visit to the park with my mountain bike. A few weeks ago, Shannon and I had a very
enjoyable bike ride where we rediscovered the beauty of the park that is only 20 minutes from our house.
The
six mile multi-use trail is a great mountain bike experience through a mix of wooded and open areas at the park. It's a wonderful escape from the summer crowds. It does have some fairly technical sections where a mixture of loose rocks and jutting limestone can overwhelm the skill of novice riders (which is the category I think I'm still in).
Unlike my first experience which resulted in three falls, I kept my speed up and looked further down the trial as I rode. This combination proved successful. I never fell and made it through some pretty tough sections. I also walked through some sections - especially when circumstances resulted in me landing in a minefield of rocks with little speed available.
I'd love to hear from other folks that have biked this trail.
