Bike Rack

And so it begins... the great mountain bike accessory hunt, now that Justin and I have mountain bikes (Gary Fisher Tassajara's).

Justin's sort of got a system for his F-150 pickup, though we may return it and go with a tow hitch mounted rack. Me, I thought I'd just throw the bike into the back of my sedan ('92 Corolla), and that works passably well but I'm already scratching up my new bike (it'll happen... not such a big deal) and my car (bigger deal, since despite my car's age, she's immaculate inside and out). Also, I've already tweaked the seat height and brake alignment accidentally while transiting the bike in and out of the car, or so it seems to me after 3 rides (seat height was way off on this evening's ride, despite being set by the BikeWorld folks and feeling great on Sunday's short ride).

So... seeking a sedan rack that won't mar my bike or my sedan's trunk lid and bumper (scratches, etc.). Ease of use taking it on and off would be a plus. Don't care if I have to take the front wheel off or not. I have that down pretty well already, now!

Re: Bike Rack

Bought the Saris BONES 2 bike rack to mount to the rear of my sedan. A friend of ours has one and demonstrated it this morning after we enjoyed a 15.5 mile ride with him around San Antonio's various Spanish missions.

We're looking for an "Insta-Gator" for Justin's pickup but have yet to find it locally. Going to REI in Austin tomorrow to check there, then will resort to online if that fails (availability or price).

Re: Bike Rack

We wimped out on the Austin REI trip, thanks to the rental Cessna 172 SP we were going to use to get there had a bad battery (some knucklehead left the airplane's master switch turned on, draining the battery).

Anyway, we found the Instagator rack for Justin's truck online at RackOutfitters.com, based in Austin. He ordered the rack on Sunday and we've already received a shipping confirmation and tracking number.
