Texas is selling Christmas Mountain Ranch

I saw this article in the San Antonio Express News that really bothered me and have posted a link to the online version for those that may be interested. I wrote to all involved and wish Texas would just give this ranch that adjoins Big Bend NP to the national parks.

Re: Texas is selling Christmas Mountain Ranch

“Hunters and environmentalists are protesting the sale. Patterson calls them clueless.”

Patterson called the pending sale "a done deal" and said, "Nothing will influence my decision unless they bring me new information."

"Every time we come up with a management plan or an idea, the Conservation Fund says 'No,'" Patterson said. "I have no interest in continuing to hold it just so I can make them happy.”

"The Conservation Fund that would not approve the transfer would look like idiots," he said.

"Patterson said if critics still believe that after seeing the completed Christmas Ranch deal, "then they've got their head up their rear."

Methinks that Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson has a bit of a power trip. So nice to know someone like this has a place in our state government and holds our best interests in such a high regard.

Re: Texas is selling Christmas Mountain Ranch

I recently found out this kind of thing has happened before with Perry/Patterson! More reading at the links below. The Black Gap Wildlife Management area deal, (which was posted of in this forum) and 400 acres near Eagle Mountain Lake near FT Worth/Dallas. Mr Patterson seems to enjoy making ugly comments when someone questions his actions. Not someone I would vote for!

Eagle Mountain Lake would be a great place for a new state park.We used to fish and camp at West Bay Marina.Good swimming and better fishing-very large crappie-nice lake.

Unfortunately these days, TPWD is more inclined to diminish the number of parks in the system rather than add to it...thanks to our state gov't for siphoning off money from their budget each year for other programs.
