Re: Outdoor Expo/Austin/Oct.

Have been many times, worked a few of them at the 4-H -crossman air rifle booth. Always a good trip to take.
There is so much for everyone to do. To experiece it all, it will take most of the day. Many displays and hands on fun for the kids. There is a lot of walking to be done and the weather can be hot or cold , so dress accordingly.
Check out the Parks and Wildlife website and it will give you a rundown on what is happening.
You won't be sorry. Have fun!

How are the crowds and lines? Is it hour long waits to do some of the 'fun' stuff like shooting? Is there an age limit for most things? I've never been but it looks like fun if my son could 'do' most of the activities (he's 9).

Re: Outdoor Expo/Austin/Oct.

One of the first things that you want to do is stop at the safety orientation booth. It is normally at the first bend of the road, and on the right side. There will be personnel doing safety presentation. You MUST go through this in order to shoot anything. This applies to children and adults. They will stamp your hand to verify that you went through the presentation.

Go early to miss most of the lines. Try to hit the most popular displays early. Check it all out. They usually give away rods and reels on a drawing , every hour. Don't miss the dutch oven cooking, they give away samples. MMMMM Good.

You can park and ride the shuttle or park on the grounds. Here's a tip, if the road is backed up too bad, coming from ben white, Go around hit 183 and come in on the east side ( I think it's burleson). It is usually shorter.

Re: Outdoor Expo/Austin/Oct.

Is there any CG conveniently close to stay at with a pop-up? I prefer a SP, but KOA or private is fine too. Just not too expensive as we would just be sleeping in the Pup. TIA!

Re: Outdoor Expo/Austin/Oct.

McKinney Falls would be right around the corner. But, they are all booked up.
I don't know of any other campground that is close. I guess you could search for a campground in or around Austin. Good luck.
