Moth Invasion

Has anyone else noticed all the little moths flying around? It reminds me of 10 or so years ago. Remember when so many moths migrated through San Antonio/South Texas that every car/truck/van you saw on the roadways had a thick coating of them on their grills? It's starting to look like that again...

I wish I could remember the information on the last moth migration... I don't think it's an annual thing, at least not in these abundant numbers.

Re: Moth Invasion

These are much smaller than Monarch butterflies and in fact are moths... I just don't know what species. Unless you're saying they're all juveniles? I haven't looked up what a juvenile Monarch looks like... for some reason I imagine they're just miniaturized versions of the adults, but as we know that's not always the case in the animal world (eg. baby swan, baby Northern cardinal, etc.)

Re: Moth Invasion

Cool! Thanks for that find -- that's exactly what we've been seeing here lately!

Re: Moth Invasion

We happened to be vacationing at Lake McQueeney last weekend and experienced these butterfly swarms. I've never seen one before and really enjoyed the scene. I thought all the while that they were baby Monarchs. But, of course, I now know better. Thanks for the link.
