Thumbs down Liquid Coal, The Truth

"North America stands at an energy crossroads. As cheap, plentiful conventional oil becomes a luxury of the past, we now face a choice: to set a course for a more sustainable energy future of clean, renewable fuels, or to develop ever-dirtier sources of transportation fuel derived from fossil fuels -- at an even greater cost to our health and environment."

"There is no such thing as clean coal...(paraphrasing) If I put liquid coal in my Prius and drove it, I'd be producing the same lifecycle CO2 emissions as a Hummer."

Well said, Shannon. I hope the escalation of the price of oil and gasoline will be a turning point for this country and will drive us to develop renewable energy sources. Today, I heard our political leaders calling on Congress to allow drilling for oil and gas in ANWR. All that does is postpone the inevitable. At some point, non-renewable energy sources will be gone, used up, no longer there. Why postpone the inevitable? We must act now.

Anyone heading from Dallas to Houston or vice versa should take a side trip just off (and out of sight of) Interstate 45 through Jewett and Donie. You'll see how clean our power currently isn't generated.

Re: Liquid Coal, The Truth

I wonder if the people who are calling for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) would be so quick to do so if the reserves were located beneath protected land not so "out of sight, out of mind" -- say, Yellowstone National Park or Rocky Mountain National Park?

Somewhat related reading, since the fuel the students are producing emits less CO2 than either gasoline or diesel fuel yet it still works in diesel vehicles ->
