Temporary after the new administration taxes the oil co's "windfall" expect it to go back up.
Up here (North of Dallas) traffic has not increased (like it decreased when it was so high) so maybe some drivers made driving decisions that are sticking![]()
I can't remember the last time I bought gas for 1.92a gallon, but it sure was nice.Makes you wonder way gas prices were so high a couple of months ago?

Paid $1.839 at a Luv's on the freeway in Oklahoma last Saturday. Don't expect it to last but will enjoy it while it does.

Supply and demand. When the prices spiked so badly it actually changed some people's activities and at least a percentage of those folks have internalized those changes and are keeping them up. For example, Justin has put over 1,100 miles on his road bike since June bicycle commuting to and from work two or three times a week. We already own a hybrid vehicle (2006 Ford Escape Hybrid) and that gets used as always, with the gas guzzling F-150 in the garage except for when we need its cargo capacity.
Prices are also lower because the global oil producers saw a huge scaling back in purchases due to the high prices so they lowered their production as a response (it costs money to store excess production.)
It should be noted that diesel prices have remained pretty darn high, which means it is still costing trucking companies and such more money per mile to do their work and that gets passed to our economy in the form of higher grocery prices, etc.
There are other issues at play here, but here's just a few basic ones.

I paid $2.29 for super yesterday at Costco, about the same as in '05. I'm an auto tech by trade & spent years working for Land Rover. When prices spiked, I saw sales drop and became worried about the future. I actually left and went to Mercedes-Benz, who at least make a different variety of vehicles. We got rid og the wife's SUV and went to an Altima (30 mpg/Hwy). I still have my '98 Discovery and its awesome 12 mpg, but it's difficult to access off-road camping sites in an Altima.
It has been a definite relief for many. This month's fuel bill was just about half of last month's. Hope it stays down at least until after we hit Big Bend at New Years. That is a long haul from here in SouthEast Texas!
