Re: WHo All's camping for Labor Day?

Unfortunately, I have to work Labor Day (got to love being an Accountant) but Brazos Bend will be a blast. There is a VERY good chance that you will see alligators and an even better chance that there will be PLENTY of raccoons so be sure to use bungee cords on your ice chests and keep food in a place that they can't get into. The raccoons at Brazos Bend are like little Houdinis : )

As mentioned we are going to Ft Richardson SP and Trailway, may take the bike ride again, may just float around. Already looking ahead towards TPWD outdoor Expo in Ocober and a stay at Inks Lake.

The Wife and I are making a return trip to PINS for Labor Day Weekend. The dogs really enjoyed their last trip. Anyone planning on going down there over the holiday?

Re: WHo All's camping for Labor Day?

We may do a day trip to Brazos Bend next weekend as we have not firmed up any plans as yet. We do drive thrus sometimes to see the deer, the armadillos and the impish raccoons. We have had friends robbed of summer sausage, cheese and links from an ice chest. Everything was under several inches of ice, latched up tight and under a tarp in the back of a truck! Man, I would have loved to sit in a lawn chair in the middle of the night and watched that heist. They caught sight of them running off.

Be sure to check the current location and predicted storm track of Hurricane Gustav if you're heading to the TX coast or East Texas. Check it often as it's still changing quite a bit as the storm's just now hitting Cuba, but is predicted to reach Cat 5 status after it re-enters open Gulf waters after Cuba.

Re: WHo All's camping for Labor Day?

Well, not over the weekend (have to work) but had really hoped on getting out next Tuesday through Thursday, returning Friday morning. But given high temps and humidity plus the tailend of Gustav coming in, we'll be staying home. Rain and wind that Gustav will be bring will most likely keep the kayaks in the garage as well. Oh, well. Got some work I need to do on the trailer and I guess those three days will be good for something.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and,

Happy Camping!

Re: WHo All's camping for Labor Day?

Sure glad we went ahead to Brazos Bend SP! The rangers always had the latest updates on Gustav & we were ready to pack up & head home to Magnolia at any time -- but it never was necessary!

We got to do the Star Party, go to the aquarium @ Lake Jackson, and take several hikes. We even saw a MONSTEROUS 12' alligator cross the road ahead of us!! (No pics though -- we weren't close enough!)

Trying to plan where to go on our 3-day weekend in Oct. now!

Re: WHo All's camping for Labor Day?

We've gone to the outdoor expo for the past 2 years. It was GREAT!! We stayed at McKinney Falls SP last year & I LOVED the closeness!!

I don't have my son that weekend either this year. We'll find something else to do the next weekend though!
