Where are you celebrating Thanksgiving?
|
|
We are going to South Llano Wednesday evening and return to town Friday morning since I have to work. The in laws will drive up to spend the day with us out there. Here's the menu
pre-cooked smoked HEB turkey
cranberry sauce from scratch and 1 in the can
Rutabegga
Sweet potato
baked potato
stuffing
green beans
gravy
cobbler (dutch oven style)
Half of the meal will be prepared on the fire, others on the Coleman.
What we are most thankful for is family, friends, employment, housing, the great outdoors and time to enjoy those things. Enjoy your day folks, then go shopping! INSERT PLUG HERE (ok, just go shopping at Old Navy)

South Llano and a menu like that...what campsite did you say you be in? Being in a pretty park and good cookin, I might have to invite myself for dinner!
Sounds like a good way to spend Thursday. Enjoy
My bride and I will be at home hoping the kids will show up.

CM, recognizing you tent camp I am impressed with your menu. Wishing you good weather and a great turkey day. That bad R word is in the forecast in North Texas.
Which cobbler are you doing in the DO? The easy peach is yummy.
We are staying home all the big kids will join us. LOL gotta get ready to guard the frig from my college son. I just stay out of the kitchen and mind the drinks

Homestead on the North Bosque River. Will have the traditional Thanksgiving Day Fish Fry. Don't believe what you were taught growing up. The pilgrims and indians chowed down on catfish filets and hushpuppies. On Saturday, we have thirty pounds of shimp coming up from the gulf for the traditional shrimp boil. By the third day, pilgrims got tired of eating leftover catfish.
With all of the good food and high school football playoffs, who has time to shop?

Dallas suburb of Coppell, Texas, where Justin's brother lives with his family. We go every other year as we are able. We'll be there several days and head back to San Antonio amid all the others on the roads on Friday.
No shopping for us, unless it's a duck in to REI (which we don't have here in San Antonio *grumble*) to look around, or a check in at the local bike shops. I do almost all of my holiday shopping online in a good year, and in a less than stellar year (like this one) I don't do much shopping anyway -- light Christmas on presents, but always an abundance of love and family.

For many years we have spent thanksgiving week in the Hill Country or further west, but this year, with the kids working and not able to get off for the week, we thought we'd go the beach vacation route. Problem with that is Ike. He took Crystal Beach and well, I think everyone knows how that turned out. So...we opted to stick around the house, get the 'honey do list' whittled down some, and go the traditional "turkey and all the fixings" route. I can close my eyes and pretend that the pine trees I'm looking at are really maple trees in Lost Maples or octillo and dagger plants out in Big Bend.
Those of you that are really out there, enjoy! Those of you who aren't, close your eyes and pretend like I do!
Happy Thanksgiving either way!

Just got back. I'm waiting for the hot water heater to refill so MOM can get cleaned up before heading into the trenches of Black Friday.
As always, SLR was great. The weather held for the time we were there. There were several programs for the families including a guided nature hike, a turkey talk, and campfire ghost stories. Today they were having a drive through the WMA on the old fire truck. We'll have to catch that trip another time.
The meal went well and we were all thankful I purchased the pre- cooked turkey as it was difficult to warm it all the way through. He ate the hot parts and packed up all the rest. Yummy...leftovers.

We camped on Padre Island NS for 4 nights beginning last Wednesday. Weather was around 80 at its warmest, high 40's at its coolest. Enjoyed the beach, ate TG dinner in our coach, and met a few Winter Texans while there. No flying insects to bother us. Found lots of shells and sand dollars. Paid a visit to the Texas Aquarium too.

We were at McKinney Falls, site 44 Mon-Sat. All week the leaves were falling and by Sat not many left on the trees. Burn ban, so no campfire. Did marshmellows for smores over the Coleman burner! Swam below the lower falls just as the cold front blew in. Last year - Garner SP. Two years ago - Fayette County Reservoir, Oak Thicket Park. Bastrop South Shore before that.

Just got back from the hill country. Spend somme time in Kerville, Llano, Utopia and did some hiking friday after Tahnksgiving at Lost Maple SP. We just cannot get enough of the hill country. We wish we could live closer, but well will do our best to try to make it out there as often as we can.
