What tent do you have.......

We use a Condor from airzonerecreation.com, inflatable tent. Love the ease of setup it offers. We have had it for 2plus years now with no complaints. Well, I would like more room since the boys are getting older, but they want thier own tent.......

Eureka 3-room, marketed for 12, but really handles 6 nicely; Also have a 20 y.o. TexStar 3-man domer that is great for solo getaways, or for kids when Dad can't take them in his tent anymore....

Re: What tent do you have.......

Ozark Trail from WalMart. I like it because you can stand up in the middle. You could fit 2 QS air mattresses in there and 2 additional people, ( kids) at the front. It has 2 doors and is a nicely redesigned model of the one we exchanged it for. It was about $50.00. It has 2 poles and is quite easy to set up. I can do it alone in about 10 minutes. The rainfly has 2 smaller poles, one for the front doors and one for the back window. There are 2 small gear pockets inside and a power port (that's new to this years model). That will work nicer for those electric blankets in the winter. The whole thing isn't super heavy, but would not be good for backpacking.

A friend just got the $60 walmart tent, swiss something or other, could sleep 8?, it had a few more poles, but if you've got those 8 people there, they can help you put the thing up, right?

Re: What tent do you have.......

All of my tents are for backpacking purposes. But you asked so I will tell

I have a Tarptent "cloudburst" weighs approx 3.5 pounds and sleeps two very comfy.

I have a Hennesy hammock. Which is a tent that hangs from trees like a hammock. You can actually lay 100% flat if you like. It is under three pounds and closer to two.

My oldest is a Sierra Designs Clip flashlight. slleps 1-2 and comes in just over 4 pounds.

Sorry I don't have time for more precise weight info but unless you backpacking these would not be your choice.

Re: What tent do you have.......

I have a 'quick set up' tent I got at Wally World for around $60. I don't know what brand, but the floor is 7x7' and there's plenty of room for a queen size air mattress & gear. It's fine for my son & me. I could set it up by myself in about 5 minutes. You just fold out the 'arms' that go to the corners of the floor, pull up the center & lock it into place. Then attach the rainfly (if you wish) & you're done!

Off the top of my head, I believe I have the exact same tent as the one described by campermom. It has been more than big enough for my son and me. Looking forward to trying it out with the wife and daughter included this fall.

Re: What tent do you have.......

Like copuswalker, our tents are for backpacking. For most backpacking trips we use a Tarptent Rainshadow. It does not have a lot of headroom, but It easily sleeps the two of us and weighs only 42 ounces (just over 2.5 pounds). That does not count the hiking pole which we use for the front support, but we always carry hiking poles anyway. It is a single wall tent, so it is subject to condensation on the inside. If we avoid contact with the inner surface of the tent, it does not drip and works great even in the rain. Two years ago this week we spent two nights on South Rim at Big Bend. It rained both nights, but this guy worked like a charm. Its only other major drawback is the relatively small vestibule. Overall I love this tent and highly recommend Tarptents in general. I don't think I am ready for only using a tarp, but this feels like a tent to me. I think the newer model, Rainshadow 2 has more headroom.

For backpacking trips where weight is less of an issue, we use our slightly older tent, an REI Taj 3. There is gobs of room for both of us and our gear. It is easy to setup and is extremely sturdy. We got hit by a sudden thunderstorm out on an exposed peninsula of Lewisville Lake one time. We hurriedly threw up the tent and got in. It blew hard and the rain came down in torrents, but we stayed perfectly dry. However, the tent, rainfly, poles, stakes, and footprint add up to almost 9 pounds.

Re: What tent do you have.......

Justin and I have always used a Sierra Designs Meteor Light CD tent. We actually have two -- one of the original ones, and the new one (pictured in link above) with the little plastic window near the top of the rainfly and dual doors. We've kept both and our nephew has camped in the other tent.

If you're wondering about the Wild Texas Gear Shop, it's a work in progress & will get announced formally and linked up throughout the site when it's ready to go 100%. Feel free to shop in and buy from it -- it's supported by Amazon.com, who handles all the order processing, payment processing & shipping; we just get a small (very small) cut of each sale made, which helps defray things like license upgrades for the various software running here on WildTexas.com, as well as the monthly web hosting fees and such.

Re: What tent do you have.......

My backpacking tent is a Euraka Spitfire - it's so light I've quit camping under a tarp. I have a Eureka Tetragon and a Timber Creek $19 7'x7' domes. I'm a big fan of the 7'x7' domes as they are easy, weatherproof (with a real fly and a bathtub floor), cheap and light enough to backpack if necessary. Perfect for car camping, kayak camping, and taking kids and newbies along.

REI Taj 3 as well. So far, it's only seen one backyard trip with the oldest son, but I've got two trips scheduled this fall to break it in.

Re: What tent do you have.......

We started with a decent Eddie Bauer 4 person dome tent. It has held up well and I like the quality.

And then added the Walmart-a-saurus. It's a 3 room tent that works out nicely. We usually pitch boths tents for guests or storage or whatever.
