A clear, cool night with a full moon. Heaven:yes: !
Happy Camping!
i was listening to someone not to long ago talking about going fishing and having problems with his coleman lantern, when i thought about that famous hisss that comes from a lantern. thinking of that one sound brought me back to every camping trip as a child, and to every fishing trip that lasted over night. it is that sound that made want to go camping again and to take my kids for their first trip so they could enjoy the outdoors that i forgot about.
what things make you instantly think of camping when you see/hear it.

DW added that she thinks the best is time spent with friends around a campfire. Can't argue with that one![]()

Our best camping trips have occurred during really cold weather (shoes frozen to ground outside the tent - Lost Maples SNA, "blue north'ner" blowing at 2am and entire Inks Lake SP clears out - save for us and two big RV rigs), so the first really nice, clear, and cool day makes me ready for my Hill Country "fix"!
Shannon cleared most of it up for me!
During the summer months in Iowa my cousins & I would camp in the patch of woods on the farm & there were always lightning in the distance. I'm not sure if the humidity had something to do with it. There was never a storm or a sound. Just lightning flashes which were so beautiful to witness.
Coming back to our tent after canoeing on the river all day with a big storm that just blew in and a couple people at our ten trying to keep it from blowing away.
Another time in N.M. a big storm blew in and we ran to the car and sat there while hail was pelting the car. The sounded & looked huge and we knew for sure our tent would be torn to shreds and the car dented but everything was OK.
Most memorable part of camping for me is the memories I'm making for myself and for my kids. Us just beign together, the 'no technology' rule in place, sitting around the campfire, or on those super cold nights, inside Westy playing games.
Good times.

Have Fun
Wow, we have had a lot but I guess I would have to say, going to Garner State Park as a mere child (16) and meeting my future husband there. We have been every year since then so that would be 37 years. OUr kids and grandkids go EVERY year also but not always with us. We also make a trip to the Frio for New Years. Now that is fun.

Thanks! I have enjoyed everyone's message about the camping experience. We had to give up our June trip to Garner because of all the rain and flooding. I still miss it. We are going to Brazos Bend on October 19 for a couple of days but will still count the days till I can tip my toe in the Frio on the New Year's Eve trip. I sound like a real whiner don't I? Thanks again for the welcome.
