Trailer camping spot!

O.K. most time the wife and I backpack but we will be breaking the rules.
Our oldest is back in Austin and taking the two younger ones for a week
This leaves "just the two of us" for some quality time.
We are doing the usual, "Where do you want to go?"
We will be in either East Texas or may take the trailer to Austin with us.

We have been to most State Parks and are thinking of maybe visiting some private parks. We despise crowded "stack em and pack em campgrounds" and like water. She does not like scrub brushy open areas like Gaudalupe or Perdenales. Cost is not an issue.
Some tall order? Will take suggestions

Thanks in advance

Re: Trailer camping spot!

What about something like Stubblefield Lake Campgrounds in Sam Houston Natl Forest? It's a fairly small forest service camp with few amenities. But it does have a shower house.

Stubblefield Lake is actually a finger of Lake Conroe. The Lone Star Trail has a trailhead parking area in this campground too. Since you're going during the week, you shouldn't have a problem getting space here.

I have not been to Stubblefield in years. In fact I barely remember it?
are there water and electric hookups? Are there sites on the water? Day hikes sound good. We were thinking of Huntsville at first

Re: Trailer camping spot!

I'm not positive about water and electric hook-ups but I can't imagine that there wouldn't be, seeing how trailer camping is very popular now days. I've only driven through the camp area to access the trailhead.

Another forest service campground that I just thought of is Double Lake outside of Cleveland on FM2025. Again I haven't camped here either. I hiked through the edge of it on the Lone Star Trail.

You might want to check out one or both of these and if they're not what you want then you could drive the short distance to Huntsville SP.

Over Memorial Day visited Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma. Very nice park with lots of electric, water and sewer hookup. Espeically noticed how much privacy each campsite had - far enough apart to not hear your neighbor's whole conversations. And of course, Lake Texoma is a beautiful lake. You should take a look at it over the internet and consider a trip.

Re: Trailer camping spot!

Todd, We have camped Double Lakes a few times. We started thinking of Wolf Creek a little now? Heck maybe we ought to stay home and take the phone off the hook. At least we can swim and boat? But there are always chores and the same neighbors that make me drink beer

Guest: Eisenhower looks great and we will save looking that direction for when the sister inlaw takes the kids clothes shopping before school!! we have travelled Murray and love it there but the crowds are the pits. Is the water at Texoma decent? Are the sites water front or at least some?

Thanks!
