Talking too cold to camp?

Hi, I'm wondering when it gets too cold to camp here in Texas, normally. I'm from Indiana and we usually stop camping in October, so I'm wanting to know if the beginning of December is going to be to cold for camping. Help? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: too cold to camp?

Welcome to Texas - we camp all year long. There are no crowds in most places in the winter. Weather patterns that would make it too cold to camp are rare and don't last long.

We camp all year long also, don't get me wrong Texas has it's cold snaps. We've been at Inks Lake in Feb in shorts and a tee shirt and the next year light snow.Plan your trip ,watch the weather ,then go if it's not too bad.Welcome to Texas

Too cold? Never! Just throw another layer of clothes on and put another log on the fire! We prefer camping during the cold weather months...less crowds. Enjoy!!

It is as likely to be 60 degrees as it is 16 degrees. Just watch the weather and if no blue norther is on the horizon go camping. Our winters are nothing compared to Indiana and the futher south you are, the milder the weather. Now mind you, January at Palo Duro canyon is probably not a good idea, but January down in the hill country could be lovely. Like others have stated we have been in shorts in January, but also have thrown another log on the fire! Welcome to TEXAS, we know you got here as soon as you could!

Re: too cold to camp?

Our scoutmaster says If your cold put a hat on. Saying that most of Texas will seem balmy in Winter compared to up North. If you tent, in addition to a ground cloth, a mattress of some kind can keep you off the ground at night.

This site has great links to parks near the cities see parks on the left.

There are a few heated cabins scattered around the state if you just want to get away. Cooper Lake South Sulpher is a great spot in North/East Texas
