Thousand Trails, would like input

Thousand Trails keeps calling us and wanting us to take advantage of our complimentary stay. Is anyone here a member and/or do you know what it costs to become a member? There's really only about 2 locations that we would take regular trips to, so I am not sure if it would be a worthy investment for us. Thanks in advance, Susan:cool:

Hi Susan,

How much you'd use it is the big question. There are only two parks in Texas (I believe) and I like a bit more variety (sp?) then that.

That said, we did get the same offer when we purchased our Coleman "Sea Pine" back in '99. I have a friend that had been a TT member for many years. I asked him about it and he said to give it a try. Sales pitch should be painless. We did at the Whitney Lake facility and had an outstanding 3-day trip. Even after I told them while making the reservation that the chances of us buy in were slim to none, they rolled out the red carpet and saw to it that we had a great 3-day trip on their "nickle". As my friend said, they took us through a very "soft" sales pitch and when we said "Thanks but no.", all they want to know was "Why not?". Told them we love our State Parks too much to go in for something like this. We also said that we felt they we could not use the membership enough to justify the cost. They said fine and wished us a great time. Don't think the whole thing took 45 minutes.

I will say that the Whitney Lake facility is very nice and I believe you'd have a very nice time. Members (not Staff) seemed a bit "stand-off-ish" and I guess that may have had to do with our being in a PU and every one else being in large "5ths" and motorhomes. We were also there during the week which limited the number of members on the property at the time. This didn't bother DW and I as we're comfortable with our own company (camp a lot on weekdays and State Parks are often empty during these times). If you get a chance to do this and you have no problem saying "No!", then I'd say take a "free-be" and run. If you do decide that you want to buy a membership, don't buy through them. There are many sources for "used" memberships to this and other camping resorts. You'll save a huge amount of money and may even get some benefits that are not being offered to new members purchasing through TT.

Hope this helps and happy camping!

Once again, thank you Turn Key!!! I am going to share with my hubby and let him decide. Lake Medina has a spot (although we really fell in love with Lake Medina RV) and then Lake Conroe (we have family out that way). Haven't been to the lake you mentioned.

Thank you and we will be off to Goliad SP this week!!!!

We are members, signed up at Medina Lake. We just went for the free camping (right), but we fell in love with Medina Lake and we go there often.

Membership costs approx. $5000 (pay it off monthly) and about $130 a year for dues. In addition to Lake Medina, there are Thousand Trails resorts in Lake Tawokani, Lake Whitney, Bay Landing, Colorado River (at Columbus), Lake Conroe, and Lake Texoma.

They have nice facilities with swimming pool, hot tub, adult and family activity centers, miniature golf, wi-fi or other Internet, shuffleboard, playgrounds, hiking trails, and wildlife.

If you like it, don't buy it then unless you want to. You can buy membership from other members and I believe it is less expensive.

With our membership we rec'd a membership in Enjoy America ($8 camping) and RPI (resort club/condo timeshare). We used the condo thing one time and it was worth it. We paid $350 for a week of lakefront condo in Arkansas.
