Thanksgiving camping trip

The family want to rent a travel trailer and 'hit the road' during the Thanksgiving holiday. Can anyone offer any suggestions where we should go at this time of year??

thanks

How far are you willing to drive, and what part of the state are you departing from?

Justin and I have done one long Texas trip towing a trailer (a small, rented pop-up) -- San Antonio to Big Bend National Park. We went in September 2001 -- it would be cooler and perhaps stormier in late November, especially in the Basin area.

But any place in Texas is fair game, depending on what you're looking for in terms of temperatures, entertainment, recreation and driving time.

I would recommend heading south. Last Thanksgiving we went to Lake Falcon State Park on the border and it was extremely cold. I would not recommend that park, though. This year we are going to spend Thanksgiving at Bastrop State Park.

Since it is a long weekend, I would want to be sure there were sewer hookups. (We "camp" in our fifth-wheel trailer.) I would recommend Lake Corpus Christi State Park. If you do not need the sewar hookups, I would highly recommend Goose Island State Park.

Lake Corpus Christi has pull-through spots which makes it easier to park. Goose Island State Park has back-in spots in the wooded area and indescribeable spots on the beach. (The spots are however you want to park, sort of -- bring extra hoses -- definitely the best spots in the park in our opinion).
