Tent Camping At PINS

Hey everyone! First post here. My wife and I are making a trip to North Padre Island Seashore Park for July 3-5. We will be bringing our 2 dogs with us. Any tips for a newbie in that section? We will be watching the sea turtles make their way into the Ocean.

Welcome to Wild Texas Adam&Nikhi ,
Will you be Tent camping or rv, maybe condo ? If camping be sure and take a small container to wash your feet off in so you don't track it inside ,dump it out after so pups don;t get it.Plenty of sunscreen-extra water for the pups, some type of shade.Alot of people swear by baby powder to help if you get the sand itches. we have been having some high tides in the Freeport area,be sure and set-up back enough so you don't have to re-set again.Have a great trip and let us know how it was.

Padre Island National Seashore shouldn't be that crowded on the 4th weekend should it? We will be tent camping. We have a 40ft RV, but the wife wants to "Rough it". Anybody have any issues with Dog's and Snake bites? That is all I'm really worried about.

They have alot going on, and I would guess it's going to be busy,But pins is such a huge area that you should be ok. Stay away from the heavy grass on dunes and any bunched up driftwood and you'll be good on the snakes.Just make sure they don't over heat.If you don't have screw in tent spikes you can use 2 foot pcs off 1 inch pvc pipe with hole drill at top to hold tent in sand if it gets windy,we use 1 on each corner.

I have seen turtles coming in and laying eggs and hatchlings making trip back into Gulf. When we have nest areas around our area Parks and Wildlife & A&M take over to make sure all eggs that can be saved are.It is a very neat thing to witness.Hope you get to see it for yourself.

srds,

You are absolutely right. This is good viewing for the whole family. If you haven't gotten a chance to camp at Padre, you should definitely give it a try. Generally good weather and naturally a great view.

Best,
Jeff Marshall
