I agree. Hardest part also is the "first come first available" . Makes it tough that you get the leftover spots if you get there late on a Friday night. Should be able to reserve specific sites![]()
WHY doesn't St. Park hold some sites for people who want to camp more than one night...? We always camp 2 or 3 nights. But when you go make or look up a reservation it's full. Mainly because most people only stay on Sat. which then screws up the 2-3 day campers. In fact most Federal places (wolf creek) make U have to hold 2 days on weekends.
Can we put in a request with St. Parks to hold 10-15 sites just for 2-3 day campers.

The state parks have to cater to all user types (day users, one nighters, weekenders, long timers and others, as all pay for the parks).
It amazes me that the one nighters take the time to reserve that one night, but longer campers can't make the same time. (we did fit that description for a while) We have been shut out of last minute planning and have now learned the system, if you want to camp for sure in Texas at certain times you must plan and reserve. Whether the state goes to sites or not its the same answer.
Not sure if specific sites are good or bad we are doing that on our upcoming trip with reserved sites in Missouri and Wisconsin. But we just guessed what looked good.
Since we use Texas Parks the most, we are now are used to get what's left. (Although our jobs allow us to take Fridays off )so we now usually start on Thursday night and you get the pick of the park then.
As said, state parks have to accomadate everyone regardless of how long they want to camp. Would love to be able to reserve individual sites but understand the costs and hassles involved with that. We're not likely to see that here and I'd not be surprised to see states that allow it moving away from it. What it boils down to is that as long as all (or most) of the sites are filled on the weekends, changes aren't likely to happen.
Happy Camping!
