Question South Padre Island.. please help!

Okay, so I'm TRYING to plan a trip to South Padre for New Year's but I'm just not finding what I want... (maybe I'm being to picky).

We've been to Port A and the parks around there a number of times but have never quite made it down far enough to South Padre. My daughter loves Port A but since it will be cold enough that we won't be swimming (at least I won't!!) I would like to explore the many oppurtunites that there seem to be on the South side of the Island. Plus, I'm told that the beaches are cleaner and I'm hoping maybe there are different types of shells to collect...?

So, now that I've rambled on let me get to the point... We'd like to drive down and camp with a Travel Trailer. We don't necessarily need electricity since everything willrun off gas or the battery but would be nice to have potable water and possibly a dump station in the area (like at PINS). I see that there is a KOA on the Island but it seems to have mixed reviews and is more expensive than I had hoped. Are there any other parks that anyone could recommend for camping that are on the Island or a short drive away?

Thoughts/comments??

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks!!

Re: South Padre Island.. please help!

We stayed there a few years ago. It wasn't a KOA then. Make no mistake it is an RV park. The sites are close together and were rocked ( hard on your feet). It is in town and an easy drive to whereever you want to go. I believe there is a county or city park right down the street. It is a long way to go to stay in a camper. You might want to drive down and get a hotel room. The amount of money you would spend on gas would almost pay for the room.
