San Antonio Camping

Are there any secluded tent camping spots that you can drive to near San Antonio? Maybe around the lakes in the south? I'm new here and looking for a nice place to relax at.

Re: San Antonio Camping

Define "secluded". If you really want to get away from folks, I recommend Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera.

Closer to San Antonio, and with some options for quiet if you pick a good site, I'd recommend Guadalupe River State Park. It's best on weekdays, particularly in the summer. Weekends are VERY busy/crowded/loud.

The lakes south of San Antonio are nice, but I wouldn't include "secluded" on my top 10 list of adjectives for them!

Re: San Antonio Camping

I would enthusiastically second Guadalupe River SP; Don't know how far you want to go, but camping around Burnet and Inks Lake SP, as well as Pedernales Falls, are all within 90 minutes of SA. Note--all of these are north of town. Don't know of any lake camping south-- a la Braunig--surely not secluded there. Maybe Choke Canyon, but that's aways down toward Corpus. Don't rule out private campgrounds in Sattler through New Braunfels along the Guadalupe, especially during the week and before Mem Day to lessen the crowds.
