that quiet quiet campground

Just got back from Arkansas (see other report) because of the rain in Arkansas, we stopped at Cooper Lake South Sulpher on Sunday night 9/9. We were the only 2 in the entire campground. I never had that in 20 years of camping and it was so quiet.

I guess the rain forcast (did not rain there) kept everyone away and it was a Sunday Night.

If you had this experience pass it on.

Many times. Camp out at Cleburne SP a lot in the winter. Park is often empty during the week. Love it!

Happy Camping!

Dino's nice but now that they've gone to $25.00 per night for "power&water", I'm not sure it's worth it. I don't actually mind the cost as we can afford it but can't help but feeling that they are charging this "just because they can". Not a good enough reason as far as I'm concerned.

In our area, we're already an inch over our annual averge for September with the month less then half spent. I'm not complaining because we sure needed the rain after the last two years and it has been a pretty nice summer. Lakes are full and we're taking the 'yaks out Thursday morning ! Can't wait !

Happy Camping!

Re: that quiet quiet campground

During a weeklong trip to Degray Lake Resort SP in AR a few weeks back, we basically had the entire loop to ourselves. Wish I had more weekdays off!

Wow, that sounds pretty sweet! Then again, I personally kind of enjoy the presence of at least SOME people when I'm camping. But that's just me

Re: that quiet quiet campground

We were tent camping at Inks Lake about 8 or so years ago. Packed full to the brim with people. We knew a cold front was due but I think we were the only ones prepared for and/or expecting it. We went to bed about 10. Around 2am you could hear the storm coming in like freight train and people were shouting "I'm leaving! Let's go!" Forget the tent, I'm outta here!" etc from all around us. We just hunkered down (the kids never even rolled over). When we woke up the next morning, there were bits and pieces of camp gear everywhere but all campers except us in a tent and a big RV with all the bells and whistles were gone. We drove around for awhile staying warm and dry in the car, debated packing up and going home but decided instead to move to a screened shelter and stay for the week. We gathered plastic, firewood, lighter fluid, a good camp chair ( all things left by those that left in a big hurry), and made ourselves at home in the shelter. That night, the forecast was for 4 -6 inches of snow. It snowed about 2 inches. The rest of the week was gorgeous weather and we had the park to ourselves because the RVers stayed inside, I guess. We never saw them.

That's the way we like it!

Re: that quiet quiet campground

Like I said in another thread, we were out at Cleburne SP this last week. Great weather and a near-empty park. "Cedar Grove" and "Keyhole" were both empty. We were the only ones in "Shadey Springs". Site 43 in "North Creek" was the only one occupied and that by one of the "Hosts". "Poplar Point" was the area most occupied having 3 campers, one being the other "Host". Very quiet and peaceful week.

Happy Camping!
