Port A Solo Camping

Hello all, I had a few questions about my next adventure that will take place on the beach of Port Aransas, or Mustang Island more specifically. Later this summer I'm riding with family to stay in a condo for a beach trip in Port A, and when they leave, I'm going to stay there and wait for friends who are coming later on that week - so most likely 4 days solo.

I have planned to camp these 4 days and wander the island as I enjoy the sandy beaches and salty wilderness at its finest - also this plan would save money anyways as I am a "poor college student" as they say.

My question is - If I will be backpacking and hiking, what supplies should I bring to remain alive? I say "alive" because I don't mind to be uncomfortable for long periods. I will fill my backpack only with these items and so far I've thought of these items:
  • Water bottles (will refill)
  • Food (will refill at stores)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Book
  • Second swimsuit
  • Shirt
  • Pants
  • Knife
  • Matches
  • Sleeping bag (will carry seperate)
  • Off spray

Can't think at moment, but please help if you have any ideas, maybe there are things that I haven't even thought about. Thank you Texas!

Re: Port A Solo Camping

Consider a small tent (weather can change ) this is a scout list so adapt to it.
---Backpack also include
__ Boots (if hiking)
__ Rain jacket
__ Hiking pants w/ removable bottoms
__ Wool socks
__ Hat
__ Sunglasses
__ Reading glasses
__ First-aid kit
__ Swiss Army knife
__ Bug spray
__ Toilet paper
__ Shovel
__ Waterproof matches or
__ Magnesium strip
__ headlamp or flashlight

This is a day pack since you note you will be refillling on food I did not include cook gear or a small stove

Re: Port A Solo Camping

Large ziploc bag to keep things dry and sand free
baby powder to keep sand out of places...like your...... belly button.
whistle
tent, gotta have some sort of shade/shelter. even a tarp, but what can you prop it up with, there aren't many trees on the beach, small tent.
soap, toothbrush, towel, motrin
FISHING ROD! How could you ever go to the beach and NOT want to fish? They have telescoping rods, even a snoopy rod would be fun. I know, not exactly roughing it, but I like fishing!

We'll be in Port A this weekend! Whooo hooo, FISH ON!

Ah, Okay, so nothing too much out of the ordinary, I just haven't camped at a beach in so long. I might be hiking with a kayak the entire time, so I could always sleep in it, I have no need for a tent. What are the rules of camping on the beach if it is not part of a park or designated camping area? For example, if I were hiking in the middle of the night and grew tired, could I legally set up a small camp anywhere? (as long as I am out of the way of vehicles)
