    New Places

    Hi everyone!
I'm a newbie to this forum
Found it looking for some camping places.
I love to camp, and especially like going to new places I've never been before.
I like to camp out of my SUV, and was looking for new places.
Does anyone have any suggestions for nice campsites that are pretty secluded.
I've been to Brazos Bend and Lake Texana many times. Live near Galv. and want to get away from the beach.
Our last trip was a private campground in the Big Thicket, the owner let us primitive camp there, it was really nice.
Looking for new places withen about 300 miles of Galveston.
    Any suggestions?

Welcome, use the "parks" tab on the left for Houston and you will get lots of parks, then read the reviews of the parks. There are so many its hard to start. If you go north Fairfield is nice, and it appears Lake Tawakani one of our favorities in in that range also.

Thanks for the reply, I used the Parks list, but I was trying to see suggestions from people that have actually visited the parks.
    Lake Tawakani sounds interesting. Thanks!

If you want a treat on the way to Tawakani, in Wills Point there is a restaurant called Katies Cafe (you pass it on the way to the park just before the last turn), it is open limited hours but has a real good Chicken Fried Steak lunch special.

I like Stubblefield Lake Campground, which is north of Houston in the Sam Houston National Forest, because it's small. It is a forest service campground and has restrooms with a shower. Stubblefield is a small finger lake of Lake Conroe. I have seen people fishing there but I'm not sure how good the fishing is.
The Lone Star Trail has a trailhead parking lot there also. The trail follows the shoreline for awhile and then cuts back into the open forest. Very nice hiking.
Cagle is another forest service camp but I've never been there.

Big Bend - the national park and the state park. Great car camping.

That one is already on my list as a "must do"--waiting for a long vacation to attempt.
