Need best route to Inks Park from Temple

Coming south on 35E from Dallas, I see two options when I get to Temple. Option 1 is take 190 West then 281 south.

Option 2 is continue south on 35E to Georgetown, then go west on 29.

I assume we will be passing through Temple around 2-2:30pm on Friday.

Thanks!

Hi Cajun!

Of the two I would pick the second, going west from Georgetown. But that still keeps you on 35 a long time. Why not try 67 through Cleburne to Glen Rose. About 6-7 miles beyond Glen Rose intersect 220 and follow it to Hico. Pick up 281 in Hico and head south. That's the only way we go to the Hill Country unless there is a real good reason to be on the freeway. Pretty ride and an easy drive. Outstanding in April when the bluebonnets are doing their thing. Some 4-lane. Good, wide 2-lane with a number of passing lanes. Have driven all of these roads on Friday at the time you will be traveling them. Though traffic will be heavier then I like, the roads should be OK unless there is a wreck somewhere. Watch for platoons of bikers heading south on 281 about that time. They congregate(sp?) in Bandara County on the weekends (way south of where your going).

Happy Camping!

My vote is for going thru Georgetown also. MUCH nicer, calmer drive.

Re: Need best route to Inks Park from Temple

Thanks for the tips. My only concern is I have my 5 year old son, we have a 4.5 hour drive and I need the fastest route. I love a scenic drive, but am hoping for the fastest on this one occasion.

Thanks!

Take the largest road on the way down. Take the scenic way back. Your son will be sleeping once your down park road 4 anyways.

When I go somewhere the first time, I take the largest roads to get there. For the return trip, it seems I have an internal compass set for home. No matter how small or twisted the road back, I don't get lost heading home.

I would also recommend going to Georgetown and hitting 29. I live in central Texas and travel all of the routes that you have been offered. Going west on 190 looks good but, once you get to Fort Hood and Copperas Cove, the traffic will kill you. I-35 and 29 will be busy but I believe that it will be an easier and less stressful situation. 29 will be busy from Georgetown to Stewards Junction. From Liberty Hill to Burnet , traffic should be good. Have fun and enjoy. Any day outside is a good one.
