Lake Mineral Wells SP

Im heading out to Lake Mineral Wells SP for some camping this weekend. I usually try to avoid weekend camps because of the surge in people, but they were the only days off I could get from work. If its too crowded I will probably go out to the back country for the primitive sites. Has anyone been to this park around this time of year. And possibly on a weekend? Im wondering about the possible crowds.

Re: Lake Mineral Wells SP

It'll be busy. Always is on the weekend. "Early Birds" started coming in yesterday and it will be "wall to wall" by 7PM tonight. Great park and every one knows it. One thing's a big help; camping area is on one side of the lake and the "day use" area is on the other. Helps a lot.

Hope you have a great trip and Happy Camping!

Re: Lake Mineral Wells SP

I called this morning and asked how busy they were, to which she replied, we only have a few spots left. So I will wait till Sunday to leave. Most of the crowd should be gone by then, and on monday, it will be nice and quiet out there.

For sure! You'll have the biggest chunk of the park to your self. Nice place. Have spent many nights out there. Wish I could join you!!!

Happy Camping!

Re: Lake Mineral Wells SP

This park has some great hiking trails. Anyone visiting MWSP for the first time should also be sure and check out Penitentiary Hollow on the east side of the lake. It is the only public natural rock climbing and rappelling location in north Texas. I am not into rock climbing, but it is a really interesting area to explore.

Talking Re: Lake Mineral Wells SP

I have also been to MWSP many times. I go there just to get away from it all for a couple of days. Im taking my digital camera, and hoping to get some great pictures which I promise to share with everyone here. My goal is to get a picture of a cat. Bobcat, or **prays to god** possibly a mountain lion. I am also going to go out in the back country and collect spent ammunition that litters the ground out there, left from the military way back when. I should be in bed already, but I started packing late lol.
