The swimming areas have muddy bottoms. I always preferred to have on water shoes. There are a couple of small stores just outside the park and up the hill that have the basic stuff. Anything more than that you would have to drive into Brownwood (16 miles).
As far as sites, I will descibe them and you pick what suits you best.
Willow Point, sites 1-47 are all water/electric sites. This area is very open and most sites just have some mesquite trees for shade with a couple of exceptions (9,10,15 33) Sites 50-67 are all wooded but a lot closer together than those in willow point. These sites are on the south side near the screened shelters. We used to always stay in Willow Point but now stay in Council Bluffs since we now have a trailer with a bath room and like the full hook ups. The site does have a park store but I have found it closed about half the time.
You will find a lot of people fishing off the pier over by Willow Point. Gernerally plenty of activity with something, albeit small, pulling on your line. If you have a boat, decent fishing to be found around goat island and up the creeks. The park does have boat slips available to rent at reasonable rates.
We already have reservations for Labor Day there and find it a relaxing park to be at. If I missed something you asked, let me know. I confess to being biased in favor of this park. When the kids were little, we met friends from Midland there every Memorial and Labor day weekend.
