LA, AR, OK Camping Trip

We're looking to venture a little ways outside of TX this summer for a camping/RV trip. Our primary destination is Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. However, we're thinking of doing a night or two in either northern LA and/or eastern OK. Beavers Bend in OK jumped out as a good option.

Any suggestions on good camp sites in northern LA or eastern OK?

Thanks and happy camping.

don't have any suggestions, but I am also camping out in AR! We're going to Daisy SP in Murfreesboro the week after Memorial Day. Hitting Crater of Diamonds!

I do not know of any parks in NW LA. Beavers Bend is a nice spot there in SE OK. A couple others in the vicinity but the names escape me. Just a personal preference but eastern Oklahoma/western Arkansas beat Louisianna any day

Beavers Bend and Lake Ouachita are both good choices. We were at Lake O. a couple of summers back over the 4th of July and witnessed a very impressive fireworks display over the water.
You may want to stay at Queen Wilhelmina State Park on the way to or from Lake O. It's a ridgetop park with nice views of the valley below. A must-do while you're there is to take the Talimena Scenic drive, which follows the crest of the highest ridges of the Ouachita Mountains. You'll note the difference of vegetation on the north side versus the south facing side of the ridge.

Enjoy your trip.

Amen to Queen Wilhelmina SP! Justin and I have stayed there three times or so, including part of our honeymoon in '98. Talimena Scenic Drive is definitely a must, and we also highly recommend either visiting or staying at Petit Jean SP as well (again, we've stayed there three or more times, including the bulk of our honeymoon -- wonderfully appointed cabins! I wish Texas SP were as nice!)

Mount Nebo SP is another favorite of ours, though our favorite cabin there had to be demolished due to foundation problems, so we've only stayed there twice I believe. (The cabin was a gorgeous A-frame set apart from the other cabins and near the park's sunset overlook.)
