how do you cook? gas or open flame

how do you cook while camping? i use a coleman stove in the morning for coffee, pancakes, and eggs. everything else is done over an open flame for the wonderful smoke flavor. there is nothing like waking up at 5:00 in the morning, hearing that pop and hiss of a coleman stove and the smell of coffe, while watching the mist over a body of water and the sun coming up. no other sounds but you and nature at its best.

great, now i'm hungry and i have at least another hour untill lunch.:ribbit:

Jeff you forget those folks who plug in the coffee pot, light the burner, turn on the micro, watch the toaster and get the OJ out of the refrig for breakfast

I also use charcoal for the cooking and the dutch oven and an outside grill for meals, but when its crappy out there is nothing like walking around the trailer and cooking breakfast all the while in your PJ's with the fuzzy slippers on

When I camp with the boy scouts it seems like the stone age all flame and or gas (depending on the meal)

PS we do have a grill on the outside of the trailer when I just have to be outside

Have always prefered gas for the speed and convienance. I do enjoy grilling on charcoal or hardwood when I have the time.

Happy Camping!

Hy, JeffnSA! Good to see you here

I cook over campfire only in winter or cold weather & a propane stove the rest of the time. I also do dishes ((sigh)), so I boil water on stove for that...I am a tent camper only at this point. :P

Re: how do you cook? gas or open flame

I cook over an open campfire in cooler months, but use a propane stove the rest of the time.
