I hope your not calling yourself olddude because your 51

Iy has been a while since I have been there. I seem to remember the campground being smaller but nice and shaded. We did camp there and have no bad memories?? I think you should enjoy it.... Sorry I couldn't help more

Re: Goliad State Park

So that makes you 53

Have you tried the state park website that is on the home page here? There are also some bools out that have detailed maps and pictures of campgrounds.
The "campers guide ot Texas" is one.

Re: Goliad State Park

Hi! We live in Victoria, TX which is only about 25 minutes from Goliad and and the state park. When our kids were small, we tent camped there and stayed in the screened shelters.

With respect to tent camping, there is alot of shade (this time of the year, there is less shade since many of the trees have dropped their leaves and it is still too early for the new leaves to come out). But, in the spring and summer, there is ample shade.

The ground is level with no rocks to speak of. There is a bathroom with showers (hot and cold running water) that is close to the tent camping areas. Overall, it is a VERY CLEAN and BEAUTIFUL park.

You have the Mission and there is a nice nature trail. Plus, you can head into Goliad, view the beautiful courthouse (that has recently undergone an extensive restoration), and walk around the courthouse square, visiting all the neat businesses and shops. Sort of like Fredericksburg, but WITHOUT the crowds and traffic. You can also visit the church and the Fannin Battleground area which is near the park as well.

I highly recommend it!

Golid park is very shaded in the spring & summer. Not sure how it is in winter.
