Gallon milk jugs filled with sand or water work well. When you're leaving, dump them out. You can tie it down to coolers, but when the beer runs out..........uuuhhh, when the sodas run out...
I want to buy some kind of shade tent while we're on the beach. But, I have never staked down a tent before on the beach. How is this possible? Do you make your own sand bags?
Also, what kind of shade tents (reasonably priced) do you own?
Thanks for any help!!

p.s. I should have mentioned that we're not camping but staying in a condo on Mustang Island. But I wanted to find a good shade tent to seat at least 6 people so we can stay on the beach most of the day.

Charcoal is a spice, dirt is a condiment, and there is no 3 second rule.
Just remember if you are taking the kids, sand will get in everything (I think thats a rule).
Try to stay off the dunes and you might check on bonfire rules, some beaches require permits or distance or you can get a fine (example from Galveston) "A bonfire shall not be conducted within 100 feet of a structure, combustible materials, or vegetation, if on the beach."
There are "beach tents" out there, but IMHO a regular tent can do

We have a screen tent "house" and its 13 X 11 and would not fit that many folks. Screening might not be good in the wind. Coleman offers Shade tents Coleman Coleman® Shelters-designed to withstand the wind and rain with our exclusive WindStrong™ System. make sure you check weight some of those shade shelters are heavy:eek:
PS Sand will still follow you home
FYI: baby powder is da bomb for getting sand off kiddos and adults both. Buy a container at the dollar store. Not the expensive stuff -- no sense wasting $$. Shake it on hands, feet, legs, and just brush the sand & powder off. I always carry some in the car when we go to the beach.
The gallon jugs filled with water will help out at the end of the day, too. Pour the water over each other right before getting into the car. Save that last half of jug to wash the "last one in the car" 's feet off. Makes for a more comfy ride home.
Not sure if you'll be able to park on the beach but if you can, a regular tarp canopy will do. Tie one side off to your vehicle and at the other 2 corners use the poles. It will take at least 3 people to set this up if its really windy. As the day wears on you will have to move your chairs to stay in the shade.
