Re: Garner

Went to Garner this past Febuary. Got lost in the trails and it was getting dark when we hit a barbed-wire fence. Far as I could see, no freeway nor did I hear any running water. Found out that I was on the backside of Old Baldy heading southwest towards nothingness and leaving park boundaries or we did.

SO, this weekend, I am going back out there and attempting to get more familiar with the place. Bringing my girlfriend and another couple who has never been out there. Then, we plan to do the scenic drive on 337 starting from Leakey all the way to Bandera. If time and weather permits, we will try to drive the Devil's Backbone.

FYI- I called Garner to found the pricing for Kayak rentals and they said that they no longer rent out kayaks... They will only rent out paddle boats and tubes. bummer... but still, we'll find someting to do.

Re: Garner

If you want kayaks, there is an outfitter on County Road 350 just a few miles from Garner. Take 1050 from Garner go across the bridge and then the first right. Maybe about 2 miles down that road on the right. Can't miss it. They probably provide shuttle, too.

Arg! Thanks for the info... I wish I read the forum before I left. We ended up getting paddle boats. I enjoyed it but my giant buddy and his tiny little girlfriend had a few problems. there boat was tilting to his side, and was almost dipping in the water and was taking on water. Due to the way it sat loppsided and the water, he could not keep it going straight. Ahhhhhhh... so many funny pictures.
