Ft. Richardson State Park & Lost Creek Reservoir State Trailway, are located northwest of Fort Worth near Jacksburo, Texas.
Fort Richardson was established in November 1867. It was the northernmost of a line of Federal Forts established in Texas after the Civil War. Seven of the original buildings have been restored: the post hospital; the officers' quarters ; a powder magazine; a morgue; a commissary; a guardhouse; and a bakery.
This had to be one desolate spot. Cactus abound the park, other than along lost creek trees are small and the ground is hard. Activities at the park include picnicking, camping, fishing, hiking, biking, day-use equestrian, and swimming in the nearby Lake. (Which we did a lot of )
It was to hot to bike but their is a nice 10-mile hike/ bike and trail that runs from to Fort Richardson and along Lost Creek to the lake.
The trail is 10 feet wide and has an improved surface so its relatively smooth.
The park has screened shelters; campsites with water and electricity; and hike-in primitive sites. This park is worth a stay for quiet and if the fort has something going on, otherwise its a small park and as such the sites are close together. If you go sites in near 21, 22 and 23 offer shade and quiet and are next to a nice walking trail
DH (as in dumb) brought the camera but left its special battery at home and LW reminded him, well I could have forgotten anything right???
