Talking frio river and concan question

Staying at the Frio Country Resort. I have a cabin reserved. This is our first time. Looking for a fun place for my teens and a good area on the river. I think the river is low right now but we will be going in June. I am looking for a place ON the river if possible. What can you tell me about Frio Country Cabins?

Or any good info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: frio river and concan question

Well, on the Frio, it's ALL good. Seriously though, different people have different opinions about where a good location is. Young people have a way of finding the cool places. The reason we have returned to the Frio for 37 years (as a couple) is the diverse choices of the river. There are deep places for tree jumping and shallow places for toddlers and chairs sitting in the river just to sit and talk and people watch. It would take a local to tell you exactly where spots will be deep as the spring floods can change the river very quickly. We were always excited to see the river for the first time to see what had changed from our last visit. There is a lot of river crossings that seem to be popular with the kids. We have a place with some solitude and moving water waiting for us also in June. The kids will definitely want to visit Garner State Park to go to the dance at the pavilion around dark-thirty. Our grandkids go to the dance once or twice when they are there, oldest being 10 and youngest will be 2 by then. They love THE DANCE. We are older than kids now but we still like bike riding and some hiking but that is mostly in the park. I think there is still horseback riding close by and maybe putt-putt golf too.
Good luck with your visit and I hope for your sake and ours that the river gets some showers before our visits.

Sandy

I am not familiar with those cabins. You might check out Welcome to funrivers.com- Your Link to The Frio River Canyon to see if they have any info. They post on here from time to time and may have some direct knowledge for you. A great area of the state to visit wherever you stay.

Have fun

Your doing good to get a reservation in June. I would say, go on out there and have fun. While there, travel up and down the river , checking out the many campgrounds. And like everyone says, You have to go to the dance at Garner. You may have to drag the kids there but they will be begging you to take them back again. Have a great time!

Re: frio river and concan question

The river crossing near Neal's is a good spot. Some deep areas but mostly shallow. One of Texas Highways' "best swimming holes in Texas" is near that spot. (just find the big leaning rock)

While you may have to "walk" the Frio instead of floating it, you will come across areas where the river is wade and deep. You just can't get to these spots any other way because of there being no public access.

Whether it's running low, high or normal, you will not find a prettier river in the whole of Texas.

Re: frio river and concan question

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for not chiming in way earlier but hopefully this will help anyone for the present or in the future if looking for a place to stay.. Also, anyone at anytime can always feel free to message me with any questions.. and thanks rockhill for referring ppl to us as a reference.

riverrat.. wow.. I did not know the hot spot between Neals and Buchanan's at the 127 Crossing was in Texas Highways Best.. but I am not surprised. Having been here for a long time either as resident or visiting.. that place still amazes me with it's beauty... and always try to suggest it to anyone who ask bc of the scenery while being a great place to swim whatever the water levels are.

Concerning places to stay.. I know Frio Country has a lot to offer along with other services with places on the Frio including ourselves these days. However, I will tell everyone to please book as soon as you can for anything on the River or off. Not to be a used car salesman.. but folks will book a year in advance for many dates, especially if on the river. We get dozens of inquiries a day for ppl looking for something on the Frio for upcoming summer months (peak season)- and unfortunately those can be swallowed up months in advance.

Of course it's nice to have something right on the river, but as I try to mention to everyone- a lot of people like to gather at places like mentioned above and other crossings with great water access. Plus, one great thing about this place.. no red light or traffic jams and most accommodations are only minutes or couple miles from River Access. Also, don't forget we're in the Hill Country and wherever you stay, there's typically a great view of Hills, trees etc..

Another great thing is everything (I'm familiar with) is very reasonably priced.. To stay somewhere that has a river in your back yard or nearby with a full kitchen and other amenities for less or comparable than a night at most Motels (per head) is great to be able to offer.

Anyways, I might be rambling but I hope that everyone wherever they stay or go has a great time this summer..

We've redesigned our main site if you need a reference/directory to the area

Welcome to funrivers.com! Your Link to The Frio River Canyon

& we do still have some places available for the summer through our reservation service

Welcome to Frio Reservations
