Re: Crater of Diamonds ?
Just went for a week there in June. We didn't stay at C of D. I had read some reviews that led me to believe it wasn't as nice as some other CG's. I have a pop up & needed W/E hookups. We ended up staying at Daisy SP in nearby Kirby. About 15-20 min. from Murfreesboro. WONDERFUL park -- would def. stay there again! All the sites I saw had lake views/access. Friendly people run it.
We went to C of D & while there I drove thru their CG. Sites were wooded & shady but so close together you were 'on top of' your neighbor. At least in the section I drove through. After deploying awnings/slideouts there prob. wasn't 4' between campers. It was just lots more crowded than I like. At Daisy the sites are nicely spread out & partly/mostly shady also.
If you want any other info about the area, shoot me a private email & I'll be glad to tell you what I know.

Re: Crater of Diamonds ?
Yes you can swim in the lake. I *believe* we had #48 in the B loop. There is an unused boat launch at the end of that loop & that's where my son swam off of all the time. You can also walk down from your site & swim. It was still a little 'chilly' when we went (right after Memorial Day) but I'm sure now it would be really nice!

Re: Crater of Diamonds ?
Save your effort. We were there last year and people had dug down to six feet and across eight feet. Nothing. You can find something, but the odds are not with you.
Also, it was depressing to drive through the ruined pine forest of Arkansas. You might do better to hunt rocks in Texas.

Re: Crater of Diamonds ?
How are your friends in Marble Falls? Knowing floods as we do here in Houston, I really feel for those poor folks. My cousin is a truck driver & said some of the trucks in their yard were under 5' of water. Not his thankfully.
When you go to Murfreesboro, if you want a good meal out eat at Bubba's on the road to the Crater. You can't miss it. Good food, & try their homemade deserts!

Re: Crater of Diamonds ?
They are taking it the best they can, alot of work to be done,we've already got sheetrock going on walls. The people of Marble Falls are great ,so many people helping each other.I'm still in awe of the level of water that poured thru,if there was'nt any highland lakes and damns that area would have been washed away. Thanks for asking, and again thanks for imformation about Crater.
