Comments on Hidden Cove Park

Hi, All. We're looking to spend Turkey weekend in Frisco, TX and are researching Hidden Cove Park on Lake Lewisville. It sounds like a nice place but I haven't found much on the web in the way of pictures or reviews. We'll bring our travel trailer and kayak.

I'd be very grateful for any comments by those familiar with the park on the camping sites, quality of the park, quiteness, lake access, etc.

Happy Camping!

Re: Comments on Hidden Cove Park

We have camped at Hickory Creek a number of times and have enjoyed it.
I believe this is the "other" corp park I have heard about? I have heard good things if it is and want to try it next time instead of Hickory.

Re: Comments on Hidden Cove Park

Hidden Cove Park used to be run by the city of The Colony. It had the feel of a state park because I think it used to be Lewisville Lake State Park (at least that is what it is listed as on some maps). However, I really don't know for sure about its past as a state park. We day-hiked/geocached there several times some years ago and also backpacked to one of the primitive camp sites on the lake (approx. 2 mile walk from the trail head) which was great.

The city of The Colony has since turned over management of the park to a private company. I think it was at that time that they took down the old website that had quite a bit of info. Here is the current website: http://www.marinequest.net/hiddencove/ Here is the link to the boat rental store: http://www.hiddencovepark.com/

The new management company is apparently doing a lot of renovations. At the beginning of that process, there was a sign at the trailhead showing the new trails that were to be added. The website talks about a new marina. However, we have not been there since it was turned over to the private management company so I cannot confirm any of that.

Let us know what you find out. I can't speak to the RV type of camping, since it is not our thing, but I thought the park used to be very nice. There were multiple amenities and the restrooms/showers were clean, etc.

Re: Comments on Hidden Cove Park

Just a few notes on our stay at Hidden Cove. The park is a former state park and still has the feel of one. The facilities were well maintained and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Lots of access to Lake Lewisville and plenty of spots for fishing or just hiking along the shore. The electric, water, and sewer sites seemed to have a little more space and privacy than the non-sewer sites.

It's a great option for camping with easy access to north Dallas.

Thanks for the info. Glad that things worked out. Was it very crowded? Do you think reservations are likely necessary on a non-holiday weekend?

Re: Comments on Hidden Cove Park

There were only a couple of empty spots out of the 40-50 sites they had open on Thanksgiving weekend. I couldn't guess on the need for reservations on a non-holiday weekend. Give the office a call at the park just to be safe.

Have fun!
